Has anyone shore fished the beaches with a large fish bait for rays or barracuda ? I've caught small fish on the float but was fancying taking the big gear , any help will be appreciated cheers

hi mate i'v fished it for the last 5 years from the shore in febuary and had some nice big bream over 3lb from the beach at los posillos fishing at night using fresh or frozen sardines or squid stuffed with sardine using 2.0 hooks was casting around 50/60 yards using 3 oz leads on a heavy carp rod and fishing the end of the big beach furthest away from the hotel called the san antonio, if your gona fish it make sure you take plenty bait ellastic as the small fish tend to hammer the baits really quick,a have tryed fishing the rock edges around the harbor in purto del carmen using spinners and bottom baits but its always a bit early when i go over if your gona bottom fish around the harbour use rottom bottoms as the ground is really heavy there is also a handy spar shop above the harbour that sells fishing gear normally buy my leads here to save weight on carrying loads think they sell up to about 4/5 oz leads hope this helps mate

Fished close to there at Los Christianos a few years back. Put out a deadbaited mullet and got totally spooled by something big.

Worth a shot, pal of mine was livebaiting on float out there and got a few derado :-)

Thanx for the replys lads I'm going over in September , me sis lives there .
Going to take a kompressor and 7500 and some joey mackerel on wire traces and give it a go on a night time , apparently sting rays move in at dark and the odd tope and small shark :-) worth a try

Tight lines and I bet you get something big. Might be worth taking one of those compressible crab traps out and just put some bread in to get your livebaits.

Think we are coming back to oz in October for a month or two and I will be bringing a crab trap out with me then.
