were to start
me and b.p were out last nite,we headed up to lynemouth armed with stacks of bait as always
we got there for around 6.00pm and made our way to the crosswaters, there wasnt a soul about at first and only a few rollers were hitting the beach, any way out with the baits, three rods in all,one armed with ragworm, one with fresh crab, and one with mussel and runnydown, other baits we had were razor and squid.
a few lads were now on the beach to the north and we found out newbiggin had some sort of comp on.
anyway it was very slow with only the one bite between us after a couple of hours fishing the tide up,so we decided to move and catch the top of the tide somewhere else.
on our way off the beach we past a few lads and only one had managed a fish only just size
we headed down to blyth beach for a quick look and there was a canny surf coming in there so we drove down to meggies burn and got talking to a couple of lads who were just coming off there, they reported that thered been nowt along there all nite and there were a few lads trying
so off we went to have a look at whitley beach, but on getting here there was no one about and it looked pretty flat on this beach so off we went again, this time to tynemouth pier, but guess what, there were a couple of lads coming off there and thered been nowt caught all nite on there either
so,of we went again this time to the paddling pool at tyne mouth.we left the gear in the car and walked down to talk to a couple of lads who were fishing on here, and guess what,if you hadnt guessed by now they hadnt had a thing, there was deffinatally a pattern starting to form here and the conclusion was that the sea just hadnt lifted enough for there to be any real amount of fish back on the beaches, but undettered and not put off we just had to find them,so we moved along to the ice house on the north side of the tyne.
having never fished here before on not a real keen river fisherman at the best of times i wasnt particularly optomistic, however with nowt in the open sea and enough bait to sink a battle ship we had to give it a go.
by this time it was just after 10.00pm and the tide was on its way back out,out went the baits with good long casts into the shipping lane,as i was informed it was snaggy if you coudnt reach it,we were only out 2 mins when a bloody tug decided he was going to pull along side the quay to drop someone off,so a quick retrieve to stop the bloody thing pulling in the rods was called for however i think paul was snagged and lost the lot,not for the first time either
back out again and pauls second rod cast out whilst putting some shocker on the other one and i was getting little rattles on rag worm but nowt worth striking at,anyway paul by this time was snagged again
so out with his newly re shockered rod armed with crab, and another ragworm bait on mine we sat about 15 mins and youve guessed it,paul was stuck
after loosing the lot again it was out with the other rod, again with fresh crab, after another 10 mins guess what, paul hooked a codling:shock:
quickly returned as it was under size.
we decided that we hadnt travelled enough miles so we moved again, this time to the opposite side of the river a bit further upstream.
on arriving here after midnight and disturbing a couple in the throws of passion we made it safely onto the mark.
it was clear straight away that fresh crab was the only bait getting any bites, paul hooked into another codling, funny shaped thing under size, then he hooked a whiting, this time size,so it was one nil
however not to be undone,i hooked into a canny codling for the river about 1.5lb maybe a little bit more, then i hooked a canny size coalie for the river, over a pound in weight and well over the minimum size Very Happy quickly returned to fight another day.
then it was pauls turn again, with a codling ,this one easily size, then i had another coalie,we were more or less getting a fish a cast by now on the fresh crab, and without it probably would have struggled in the river,it was now about 2.30 am and altho we had fished a good few hours it flew by,and turned into a canny sesh in the end.here are a couple of pics
