hey all i was wondering if there is anywhere to launch a boat for free ie no membership etc i know about the 1 at hylton road but its like a mud bath lol any info would be much appreciated thanks dean

Not aware of any free slipways in the NE.
Have a look here for some decent info on launch sites.

The best slipway I have found is Sunderland marina but its an annual fee of £100 but its all tides , sheltered and no need for a 4x4. In fact I watched a fiat punto pull out a 16 footer there and I have say my money was on the "No way!" bet.

sunderland is canny, pulled a 16 footer out of there with a renault megane once
launched for free from cullercoats beach many a time
south shields is ok, long concrete ramp, 70 odd quid a year
there's one further up the wear that is free, can't remember what its called though
