be up there in 5 weeks doing a full days boat fishing might be tempted to stay the night and fish from the shore too next day

etive virgin can anyone tell me can we catch fresh mackerel whilst there or wud it be best to take some with us

You can catch it up there coddy mate, but I'd just take some with you. The tackle shops up there all sell frozen and obviuosly you can get fresh from the supermarkets.

If your gonna fish the shore the following day then you can't go far wrong if you fish the old church mark. With the church behind you fish to the right hand side,,,,there's a cracking hole there that holds thornies and spurs ;0)

A friend of mine was up a week or so ago and got one or two spurs but said it should fish much better as the summer kicks in...

I put a wee report up from Etive in catch reports mate, !BUT! I was there again yesterday and between 7 of us not 1 bite
As for the mackerel I have only ever caught 1 there and that was in November (biggest mackie Iv'e ever seen) !! I dont actually fish for them there it took a mackerel bait, if your planning on catching some best to stop off at inverary pier on the way up but I'd take some with you to bud.

The school mark seems to hold a lot of thornies, for the spurs i like the flat rock, fished it for a good few years now and everytime i go back to this mark it still amazes me how deep it is. 250ft+
