Probably best with a pulley rig, as soon as the lead hits the water the tension is released from the hook snood and the baited hook falls free.

easy to make your own mate I use welding mig wire just takes a bit time thats all

I got to say that that looks decidedly dodgy from a safety point of view. The middle loop which I guess retains the hook will be stressed during casting and may open a little, so you bend it closed again. This "work hardens" the metal making it brittle. It would only take a few "re-bends" to make it much weaker. Have you had any snap ?

There is a guy selling Namix leads on this site with a much safer design of a combined lead loop and bait clip (can't think of his name at the moment) who may be able to point you in the right direction.

The wires used are incredably strong it would take big danny to bend one LOL i use these from the same lad who makes the one hawthorn showed

Looks very similar to the new cascade swivels, but only theres a swivel trapped in the loop for the swivels obviously.

That's what I though when a seen that too, great minds think alike

'Hawthorn', i am not having a go in any way here, but in my own honest opinion the lead loop shown in the pic at the start of the thread looks very unstable and dangerous. Any decent and powerful caster would just bend the loop out of the wire when casting... and if it where to sheer off and go in any direction with other anglers and people around, I'd hate to think what could happen!

Best to use bait clip wires that are safe and trusted by the big brand lead weight producers, like Namix, UK Hooks, BreakAway, Outcast, Gemini, etc.

These lead loops/links are trusted and used by many anglers across the northeast without any compromise or accidents as far as i know.

I use genie bait holder clips to secure my hook during the cast, thinner gauge wire and bent using the same methods......never seen one straightened out. To straighten this out during a cast it would probably have to hit the deck, then I'm sure the rig body would give before there would be any chance of the wire "shearing or straightening out".

Fair enough, but a still would never use them, they look too dodgy for my liking. There's easier and safer ways to clip your hook behind the lead when casting.

I know the lad who makes these andy and put it this way if you can bend one from casting ill give you a tenner as the wire he uses is top quality grade and he pays alot of cash for it ive seen him Make the wires and it takes some bending into place
