I have stopped making my own leads as there is a guy call Bill Costin in scarborough who has his own business of making leads, I got 100 150 grm arsley bombs for £17 from him, by the time I get everything ready and the health hazard fumes that comes off lead I find it is not worth making them, he makes them for all the tackle shops up and down the coast.
i\'m a joiner and the plumbers in my depot usually have loads in the back of there vans and i get as much as i want i\'v got a kanny bit in the house which i\'v had for a while like.
Thanks everyone for the advice. As I don\'t know any builders, plumbers, etc. I took Keith\'s advice and bought some lead from the place in North Shields. It seemed quite reasonable at 32p per kilo so I bought 20 squids worth - that should keep me going for a week or two
doesn\"t smell very bad that does it lol. got some a few years ago that had rubber insidethe lead pipe, she who must be obeyed (and the neighbours) was not impressed.
I have been lucky enough to get hold of quite a bit of lead as my old man is a keen fisherman but he\'s upping sticks and moving to Spain so i kindley took it off his hands, the trouble is i\'m having trouble locating the wire needed to made spider weights anyone point me in the right direction??????
Keith
The lead was mostlty lead flashing, some waterpipe, and some really old gaspipe with brass connections for gas mantles! It is mostly clean so doesn\'t smell to bad when you melt it down
@ charlie, if there is a hobby shop anywhere near you see how much they are charging for piano wire. Comes in about 2.5 to 3ft lengths so you can cut it to what you want.
Also, if you know any welders, brazing rod is good (brass) and you can use the bits they throw away.
@bigh good suggestion didnt think of that i wouldnt care i had a full pack of rods but i threw them out.Never mind ill pop to a fabricator to try and pick some used ones up cheers for that mate.
bigh m8, sorry to disagree with you and brashy but brass and copper are both to soft for weight loops, be safe buy stainless steel wire it\'s cheap enough as tony says most tackle shops sell it fishy1
Charlie,if you know any sparky\'s they should be able to sort you out with some wire,i use the wire casing out of armoured cable, theres a few different thicknesses but most fit ok unless its really heavy cable.
