looking for shock leader material for fishing i am one of these who uses clear line for my rigs and for my leaders ,dont even like to use crystal colour leader just pure clear, dont prefer a hard leader or a line which is too soft ,soft line does not have the strength of the slightly harder leadesrs anyone can come up with anything thanks regards john

hi, yes you right greased weasol very good but cant get it in clear form can get it in crystal but not clear ,used 60lb club line last year from rigs at seaham but looking for a bit better quality now thanks john

Soz blastman, but I think most fish are thick. If you use clear line or coloured line,, dont make a lot of differance,,, your run of the mill cod wanders onto your baited hook and sez to its self\'\'\' whats that dodgey bit of red string???? \'\'NAA \'\' look at that nice fat bit of lug,or rag , or a nice bit of sausage, pigs liver .Im going to nosh that bu$$er the red bit of thingy that its attached to,..Im sure most fish are verrrrryyy thickkkkk SO why cAN\'T I catch them ???

Don\'t like coloured leaders but this is probably a personnal thing. I use grey Greased Weasel. There is a bulk spool of Ron Thompson stuff which looks and feels like GW but is only done in orange. If they did it in grey I\'d snap it up as it\'s only about £10.

mines orange, never had a problem, mind you i never get out enough or catch enough to compare leaders these days, got a bit more time on my hands this winter so here\'s hoping :D

why not try a flurocarbon leader, goes invisible in water, berkley do some called vanish comes in all breaking strains up to 100lb.

hi all thanks for all responces having prob with comp or would of been on responding before now,i,ve heard red line is supposed to be the hardest to see??? deep water wrecking i prefer black muppets strange leaders are we talking daytime fishing or night fishing.different comments about flouro carbon lines etc etc price comes in as well heard someone talking about cost of greased weasol i,m looking for happy medium, tich is talking saying fish is thick???????? competition for food comes to my mind if there is a lot of fish about they may take anything because if they dont its mate will , if there is not many fish about they can be more fussy, in my opion its not just the bait you use but the rigs you use can make a massive difference, if there is less fish about now like the majority of people i talk too think then the fish can be more fussy this surely makes fishing a very interesting hobby regards john

Suffix Supreme here, red. canny price for 200m(?) spools. Nice balance between toughness and flexibilty (just like me)

hi ell ,not far off the mark at all i used to use the 80lb stuff a few years ago but found it too good to be true pretty thin but a shade soft for me,allen yates used to promote gantel years ago this was slightly yellow in colour but i found it a bit wiry never here of it now, if it was,nt for the colour i wound,nt have a prob regards john

people talk about cost of shock leader???

well if you go and pay say £400 for a rod and reel
why scrimp on cheap shock leader and maybee hooks
thats what keeps you in contact with the fish

Makes sense Sless BUT. We all know lads who\'ve been at it for years. Nee beads, crimps, snap or lead links. Ancient clobber, cheap and cheerful that catch fish, often more fish than us. My mate does it on a regular basis.

hi all, £400 for a rod???? few of my friends are now using shimano trinidad reels up here seen the price of these, why use a shock leader at all you can overhead thump with 18lb line no prob at all even with 8oz of lead seen it done at seaham, could start a new thread here heading whats the most important thing with your fishing ,,ie bait ,rigs ,marks etc, one of my old seaham friends deceased now but well known reckons success was down to 80percent bait makes me wonder regards john

HI SLESS, no laugh just fact seen it done tears ago eddie talbot of seaham harbour fishing next to me one day try it yourself i think it would of probaly of been sylcast line regards john

Blastman, i Know you meant to type \"YEARS instead of TEARS\"- but if i Knew someone was using 18lb line as \"SHOCK LEADER\" - sorry mate but i would have to say something to them -BEFORE it ended in TEARS ,or worse, the thought of 8oz of metal breaking off its \"tether\" scares the life out of me- So if your going to use this bizarre theory that 18lb is ok-can you post where your fishing so i can Avoid your ridiculous way of fishing. Cheers and all that , thats MY view, anyone like to add.

I use Penn Tuff Stuff. It\'s clear, suple, holds a knot very well and is very abrasive resistant. Think it\'s around £6 for 100m. Well worth it though. :D
