went to lidl today for a nosey at the fishing gear they were offering. usual crap as normal, however i opened the crivit four bearing box to have a look and was struck by how good they were! solid metal everything, free running spool with twin drag and an alloy spare spool....to be honest a nice little reel, so bought one at £12.99 for float fishing.
can't wait to use it!

Sometimes a bargain is just that!

kept away from the £5.99 ones as they were crap.

dont buy one on my advice...open the box and look for yourself!

Cheap spinning reels in my opinion are fantastic lol. I remember on the back end of summer Tried craster with a little rod I had when I was a kid. So were talking about a tiny rod from 16 year back. called the fisherman company or some crap, bent over itself at the first sign of a fart lol.

Freelining ragworm, when I cast the weight of the worm actually bent the rod, thats how soft it is. Now that with a half pound coalie or pollock... was brilliant lol.

buy cheap pay twice

Usually, but not always the case though. I've found the stuff from Aldi and Lidl to be pretty decent if you make sure to check it over for quality first. My lass is into crotchet and knitting fancy stuff so spends a fortune on flash yarns, she's had a load of 100% good quality cotton from Lidl in the past. I got a car battery boost/jump pack from Aldi that I've had about 9yrs now and still going strong.

I won't mention the riding crop from Lidl that's seen good use despite having never seen a horse ;-)

Back from Lidl, Have to say... bought the waders at a £15 punt. the £5.99 reels is cheap, but the £12.99 is really solid, honestly took it out and was well impressed. foldable handle rather than the old style of slackening the shaft, two solid cut aluminium spools, Solid 3mm bar and a massive play lever, well impressed!

Also bought 2 boxes of the night lights, 50 lights for £2.99 aint bad at all... had none of the herring rigs in though :( looked like they were small shrimp traces.

i managed to get some herring rigs at wreckinton yesterday on the way past while at work, lol, they are little shrimp rigs the kind i use for launce and coalies of the pier got some night lights as well all seem ok , never checked out the reels as i have to many already :D but the waders looked ok for £15

I actually tried 2 ildl shops for the herring rigs... feck all lol

Incase anyone wants to see the Reel in question, The Reel. Nicer than I thought it would be

bought a rod and reel with line from the pound shop absalute crap but took it with me last summer mackerel fishing after using and catching loads with my abu 713 bollocks whatever spinning rod [wich cost a fortune ] broke out with my pound shop gear, best fun i have ever had fishing, with one mackerel on the rod was bent double and the reel was't powerful enough to reel the fish in [had to keep taking the bail arm off to let the fish run ,no drag as such] but the line held out, terrific sport .
