Since I bought my gas collar life jackets, I have never had them tested to see if all the gas is still in them. How often do yous have yours checked and where!
If they are down on pressure, do you get them re-charged, or do the cartridges have to be changed. They must be about six years old by now, I have 4 to check.

Evey 3 years for chartered boat to be renewed but i think if yours is 6 years old may be you sould renew no good if they dont work when you need one ?

The RLNI do a safety day at the Royal Quays and do it for "free" i always put a £20 in they will check them over, do a cord and gas check etc...i will let you know when they doing it this year, often start of the season so around April time.

Mine are 3 years old now so will also be looking at re-gassing them etc, i have purchased about £260 worth of extra safety gear over the winter due to some of the distances we have been going in 2012, no help when 15-27 miles out i tell you and in my boat its a good 2hr run back....hoping not to need to do it this year and have a bumper year close in :)

Gps beacon bouy, radar reflector, 4 life jackets, new flares, new smoke, para flares, water proof hand radio, main radio, gps emergancy push button on key ring...think that does it for us...the boat will sink from all the crap i have put on it this year :)

Does your insurance cover you for those sort of distances Rich.

Thanks for everyone, anyone know how much the cartridges cost to replace.

Yes, 30miles from a port or safe anchorage area for upto 4 people...as i say hoping to not need to go that far from land this year..it cant be any worse fishing that 2012 can it :)

The price of new is wide, they range from as little as £3 upto £18...i have the Titan marine jackets and it costs £8.45 each for a new gas unit and fittings but when it comes to things like that you just have to pay whatever it is.

As i say i let you know when the RNLI roadshow is on at the marina, worth taken all your safet gear along for a check and they happy with a donation

Do you not carry a liferaft or even a inflatable dinghy, because if your boat goes down you must have some means of escape for yourself and your crew.

It will be to late if you gonna wait for rescue and if you in the water even in the summer you wont last long.

No, dont know anyone with a power boat under 22ft that has one of them but they are worth having if you could afford them or fit one on.
