19 hours of lure fishing and finally I get some success this season. Not 1 but 2 within half an hour. Both taken off the surface and in great style. The smaller second fish spent ages jumping and thrashing around on the surface :D

We saw this strange worm swimming just below the surface, I managed to get hold of it and take a pic. It was 15 inches long and was almost white whilst swimming in the water. I haven't got a clue what it is. Any ideas?

Good going Sean mate - I've yet to break out the lures (of any kind!) yet this summer but would love to get a few spikeys on them this season.

Cheers, Gary :)

ps. Not sure about the worm - possibly some kind of ribbon worm??

If it was really slimey I think what you found was a green leaf worm Sean mate. I've found quite when rockpooling with the kids. It looks like a rag worm underneath. I've found them really dark green and really light green but almost white underneath. They leave an iodine mark on your hands if you hold them for a while as my youngest daughter found out. They look amazing in the water but will turn your bucket to slime if left in there for a while as we also found out. They seem to stretch when out of water and I've had them up to about 2-3 ft long! Here's a link to a great site if unsure about anything you find:-

It was indeed very slimey, looks like you're onto a winner there Darren. There isn't much in the sea that I haven't come across and it's nice to tick something else off the list.

Glad I can help lol. It's nice when that happens mate. We recently came across a sea hare. Never seen one before and niether had any of the old guys from Whitburn Angling Club and they've been on them local rocks since they were kids. I took my daughters out the next day and we seen 6 or 7. Horrible looking things.

its a old post i know, but have to say that worm is a bootlace worm, longest marine animal, longest aminal in the world, can be longer than a blue whale. Biggest found was just at our culler coats =}
