Been Reading a sea fishing book I got off the net the other day, it has a picture of the triangle shaped limpit you see stuck on almost every rock or pier wall, The book says these can be used as bait. Anyone heard/tryed these? Be good if they did work as you could collect a bag full in ten minutes.

seen a guy tip with limpets on seaham pier once and pulled up a codling...as they are white its prob good a visual aid bait too...apparenty the wrasse love them down south an all...

They certainly do mate. I caught my PB wrasse of 4lb 2oz from the wherry on a cocktail of different size limpets:D. They would be an excellent bait after a big storm in winter on the rock edges.

A dont know if ya can freeze these down like mussels, etc.

Hope this helps ya bud.;)

Hmmm might collect a couple before a go fishing and give them a try, Surprising that more people don't use these it's not as if there hard to find, intresting stuff lads.

Have caught wrasse, pollack, coalies and cod on them over the years. In a cocktail its good for keeping the rest on ;-)

They are a good bait, it's the black sack that you want as that is where the juices are, thread 3-4 on a hook and bind them on with mussel using elastic thread

I have often kicked them off the rocks while out fishing and tryed them but never had any luck, but hit on to the right conditions and a few fish knocking about who knows. I think the ones your suposed to use are called Slipper Limpets.

john.

You bring a pale full of freshly picked limpets and I'll bring Crab or Worm....

We'll see who catches the fish ;)

Fair point, though a bet limpets will catch there fair share of fish. These just as easy as crab to collect aswell (though without the danger of getting crabs thesedays LOL!:D)

As a said before they will make great bait after a storm or as a big cocktail.

P.S. does anybody know if you can freeze these down like mussel? Would be interested in collecting some for winter rock fishing, etc.

Couldn't even get blennies out of rock pools on them when I was a bairn; never used them since.

Gary :)

size 2 hook and the black sack (not the foot) and I guarantee you'll catch blennies...call yersel a match angler!? :D

BTW you can freeze them same as mussel...not convinced of their Cod'ability baitwise TBH but the jury is still out with me...wouldn't dismiss them out of hand though
