As we approach the summer I want to warn unsuspecting members of what is often a blatant breach of law:
Line Dancing Prevention Act 1998
Section 1 - Going Equipped to Line Dance
Any person, when not at their place of abode, has with them any checked shirt, stetson hat, cowboy boots, country and western music commits this offence
Penalty
Life Imprisonment
Aggravating factors would include driving a pick-up truck with an array of spot lights above the cab and ridiculous oversized wheels. Any person found in possession of any Garth Brooks or Billy Ray Cyrus records would also commit this offence.
Section 2 - Using Words or Behaviour Likely to Incite Line Dancing
Any person who in any public place uses words or behaviour, such as talking or singing in a false American accent, using phrases like "Yee Hah" "Wham Bam Goddam", "I'll Have To Take a Rain Check On That" "I'm Sorry But I Just Can't Be There For You" or "I Hear What You're Saying" commits this offence.
Section 3
When 12 or more persons are gathered together and their conduct is such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness to fear that he/she may be immediately subject to a show or an outburst of Line Dancing, the person so causing that fear may be arrested.
NOTE: It is not necessary that a person of reasonable firmness is present, only that the Line Dancing would so cause a person that fear.
Section 4 - Incitement to Line Dance
Any person who actively encourages and/or is involved in the arrangement, training and management of any event likely to encourage Line Dancing shall be guilty of an offence.
Section 5 - Conspiracy to Line Dance
Any person who publishes, distributes, circulates or otherwise advertises any event for the purposes of Line Dancing, or where an offence of Line Dancing is likely to be committed, commits an offence.
NOTE: It is rebuttable presumption at law that Line Dancing is likely to be committed at Fairs/Village Fetes/School Fundraisers/Church Bazzars and if charged with this offence the organisers must prove to the satisfaction of the court that they took all reasonable care to ensure Line Dancing was prevented.
Definition
For the purposes of this Act, Line Dancing is definedas any act involving three or more persons moving rythmically to music commonly described as Country and Western as prescribed in the Jonny Cash Act 1984. (See also the "Garth Brooks" Ammendment Act 1993).
NOTE: The rythmic movement must involve certain outer garments described within this Act and is typified by the placing of thumbs into the waistband of trousers. There is no need for the parties involved to form a line but the rythmic movement is an absolute necessity.
