Lobster Claws

Just a cautionary tail from a newby, I guess you lads already knw this but just in case........

My last 2 trips to SSP I have had a decent lobster each time, both returned. The first one I was very careful and unhooked it with gloves and pliers but the second one was lightly hooked and I thought I could just get the hook out quickly with bare hands.

Well it got my finger in it's nipper and it is quite painful, it broke the skin and there was a bit of bleeding but I saw the funny side of it naturally.
However, two days later the finger has swolled up, visited the docs after nagging from the missus and he has prescribed strong antibiotics for what he said is a bit of a naughty infection.

Once again sorry if I am stating the obvious to experienced anglers but of course other newbies use the site so I wanted to pass on the info. I might never catch another but if I do I am gonna be very careful.

sorry m8 but im laughing my head off got a vision in my head of it not letting go of your finger hope your finger gets better

ow thats gonna sting a bit! The infection probably came from the bait or whatever you were doing after the nip rather than the lobby itself. if you pick them up just do it across the back its the same with a crab, they cant nip you if you pick them up either side of the body just next to the main nippers.

reminds me of a restaurant i worked in when the kitchen porter stuck his fingers in huge crab claw (idiot), well obviously it clamped down, his finger looked like a squashed banana haha had to chop its claw off just for it to let go:D
