looking for a dog (no freddie shepherd jokes please!!)

since traceys dad died, her mam is struggling a bit so though a mutt might be a good idea to give a bit of company

she fancies something smallish scruffy and long haired - bearded collie cross, lakeland terrier cross, that type of thing

anyone know of any anywhere, pups or young dogs that need a home??

been round the cat and dog shelters which seem to be full of greyhounds that have raced their last race or mental brindle staffies and seen nothing that would suit

Tried the yellow ad mag?

We've got 2 border collie puppies, drove upto Airdrie to get them but they're from working farm stock.

Go to www.dogstrust.co.uk
It shows the ones all over the country, something could be arranged.I f you are anywhere near Darlington I was there last week and a few matching that description were spotted.

Check out the websites for pedigree dogs and then check their forums as many of them do a rehoming service for people that may have bought pups and not realised the work that goes into keeping them.

heres one to start you off

should add that the shelters are a hit and miss affair, you've either got to check in regular or just pray you hit on lucky - our last dog, another border collie, was dumped over the fence (along with 4 siblings) on a freezing friday night in Feb '93, pure luck that we were passing and called in on the off-chance.

Could try the RSPCA aswell, we've had a few rescued fancy rats from them and the lass certainly had no end of dumped animals of all kinds, think that particular branch may have closed (Sunderland)..

cheers chaps, have had a trawl round and the shelters are indeed hit and miss, nice wee dogs don't get left in there for long

found a place in thirsk from the dogstrust site (cheers tooly) we might go to tomorrow, got a lead (!) on a new arrival at deerness in langley moor we are going to check out first thing as well

did you find a pup

just! picked up last night from the rspca in durham and delivered today, funny little mutt but dead canny. was a stray, estimated 4 or 5 years old but wherever he came from they trained him well, so he's been spot on so far

only knee high, rough/beaded collie or spaniel in there and possibly a bit off rotty as well we reckon by the colours and his shape

she's chuffed to bits

Excellent, looks a lot like our previous border collie (got him from Lbtn cat and dog shelter as a pup back in 93), was a fantastic dog, great with the kids, protective of the whole family but daft as a brush.
