Loppa, Norway 2013 Report 1

As many of you are aware now, 8 of us spent a week in Norway last week. Myself, EddieS, Paul Hardy(Flying Eagle) and 5 great guy's from the Mannin Angling Club in the the Isle of Man.



We stayed at Oppelvelser Fishcamp which is situated in Sor Tvverfjord region of Finnmark district in Northern Norway. The Camp was situated in a pretty remote region south of the isle of Silda and Loppa Island.

The Journey involved two planes, first to Olso then onto Alta Airport, followed by a very pleasant 2hr bus ride to Oxfjord and a 2 hr Ferry crossing! The scenery all along the Journey in Norway is simply stunning and the scale of the landscape takes some putting into perspective. We eventually arrived at the Fishcamp, after getting off the Ferry at the wrong place! to find it was ran by a lovely helpful elderly couple called Britt and her husband Torr.




The Fishcamp itself was sheltered amoungst some hills and had access right to the water, literally a 30 second walk from the doorstep. Arriving late and after unpacking we decided to spend the first night with a touch of Spinning for Small codling and Coalies followed by a session on the Vodka to warm us up a bit! Although the weather was kind to us for the first few days especially a lovely toastie 1 to 4 degrees C

The next morning we were all up early to get stuck into our 1st full days fishing. We had 3 Dolmoy 23ft Boats in total, so off we chugged to our first mark just outside the Fishcamp. We picked up a few smaller Cod and a few Wolfish before moving on further towards Loppa. The fishing was slowish at first until we could find the right plateau's and channels to fish in. Once we did it wasnt long before we started to pick of a decent stamp of fish.





The 3 boats managed to get split up whilst we searched for the hotspots. We returned after the first day satisfied with our catch, but got back to reports of the other Guy's absolutely smashing fish all afternoon further out at the end of Silda.

Naturally we headed there first thing the next day.......
And we weren't let down.... The Fish were in abundance and the fishing was consistent all day. Every time a line went into the water a decent sized fish came out. The skies cleared the sun came out and it made for what is definitely the most memorable days fishing in my life.

We all came away with huge Cod, my biggest bieng upto 35lb'ers, Paul catching upto 38lb'er and Eddie romping in with a 45lb'er! The fishing was relentless, with all of us having to stop and take breaks to rest it was that busy!!





We all returned back to the Fish camp absolutely knackered and aching from all the winching!
The next few days was pretty much the same, lots of quality sized fish in consistent flows with the odd Wolfish thrown In to spice things up a bit!

With all the Cod being caught we spent the last few days in search of Halibut, as some of the lads had picked a couple up the day earlier. After bagging his monster PB,Eddie was keen to bag a Halibut to round his trip off, as we all were. After more and more quality sized Cod, Eddie eventually got his 'burt'.... A nice 8lb'er, not a monster but a halibut all the same!




We finished off a fantastic week with a brilliant days fishing with yet more Cod! They were that plentiful it was actually hard to get past them!





The week itself was fantastic, couldn't have asked for better weather, we got out fishing everyday and only had two days where the weather was a little uncomfortable. We saw Dolphins, Eagles, Mink, stunning landscapes, sun! and fjords made of Glass. Plus had fantastic company all week long and great laughs everyday.

Fantastic report there mate, well done on some cracking fish and pbs!. What was the sounders like on those dolmoy boats?, the same boats at sandland were fitted with garmins which only showed very basic detail, whereas the sounders on the open ally boats at Oppleveslor where great.

They were Hummingbird I think mate, seemed decent and provided good enough detail, but I'm no expert. I know that we had them completely filled with fish at times!

Unfortunately not, the ones we didn't lose got absolutely shredded!! All the Kinetic lures did well. Big Bobs, Scary Jerry's, Flat Matt's and Red Heads. The Savage Gear Cut-baits do well especially the Puffin. Speed Jig's and the trusty Norwegian Pirk's did really well also.
