To shake off the cabin fever I popped down Marsden over low water and was greeted by some pretty rough and coloured sea, but more importantly in front of the breaking waves was what I expected...... Mini species country.

Didn't waste any time in getting stuck in, popped on a Strawtail Grub on a fine wire jig head and within a few seconds had my first small LS Sea Scorpion (didn't get a pic)

Watched the little fella swim away then moved on a few metres and had a couple more. One of which is below, had a lovely colour on its underside.

No new species for me, but still a very enjoyable hour.

Well done Si!
Are you actually fishing in the gaps between the rocks?

Yes mate, look for rocks which overhang and provide cover, nooks and under-water structure. It's difficult when it's murky because you have to totally rely on feel. When it's clear you can actually see the fish swim out from where they are hiding. There's no such thing as too close in when Rock fishing. I think the Lure was never further away from me than about 3 metres today. Let the jig head tap the rocks / bottom. Only make very subtle movements with the lure, up and down for example. Spend a few minutes at each spot, if you get no interest move a few metres away and try again. Just keep covering ground until you get some interest. If you do get snagged, be patient with it and often you can free it up with a change of angle, but inevitably you'll end losing gear because at the end of the day your fishing rough ground. Try rigging weedless Lures with an offset hook and cone type lead or a weedless type jig head, this will minimise your chance of snagging.

Brilliant, thanks for the advice!
I have everything except small weed less hooks. I have bigger ones but moonfleet don't have little ones in yet.
Do you get yours mail order?
Cheers,
Geoff

Yes mate, Art of Fishing usually have them in, but to be honest I only normally use them when either I can't see what I'm fishing into or deliberately going in the weeds.
