Lure/light line fishing off our coast

Hello, just joined :)

I usually lure fish in freshwater (Pike,Perch,Chub etc), but fancied a crack at some lure fishing locally in the sea, and possibly some bait fishing with light line/bass style gear. What are the prospects like off our coast for this sort of fishing? I was thinking that small soft plastics/jigs should tempt at least something lure-wise?
Any good local marks for this type of fishing?
Not fussed about size of fish, just something to put a bend in the rod when I can`t afford to get further afield, or when the lake`s are frozen (which`ll probably be soon!!!) :)

might be a bit late for the lure. But a float off rocks baited with stuffed calama squid is worth a bash i took a 3barrbed rocking of a pound weight last week on a low water rock mark. on a light rod. lost a big fish as float was to light conger bottomed me i think. so im thinking of trying a big red ballcock float from b&q with a 2metre 25lb drop line 3 0 hook with big bait well bound with elastic. looked on internet for really big floats cant find any. Good luck.

every summer i fish blyth pier with no more than a 9ft spinning rod and 10lb line. few spinners and most times (in the summer) used a single hook with a cooked prawn elasticated on a small hook a good 3-4 ft up the trace so it was well above the bottom and cast into the tide rip and let it swing round and the coalies would smash it like it was there last meal. had a few near 2lb that have had me thinking my line was gunna snap under the pressure they fight so hard. but these tactics never worked for me in winter, i would think they would be abit more dispersed due to there not being big shoals of baitfish nockin about. but might get results if you put some effort in and find a good location.

I know what you mean about how hard Coalies can go. I hooked a 4lber on the bottom hokkai while catching launce off S.Shields pier a few years ago, and it went like a 15lb+ Pike....didnt know what the hell I`d hooked at first !! :D

:( I lost bec i forgot to upload my fishies :( Next year :D

And i know a few marks on our coast that throw up a few bass in winter matey :) They still hang around, there just usually the bigger ones << All the more reason to fish for them :D

Read that thread last night....was a good read, I`d be up for having a go if a similar comp is run next yr :)

I was just going to ask about Bass around here in Winter and whether many show up!! :D
If you can pass on any tips it`d be much appreciated. No probs if you don`t want to divulge the specific spots though...
