lures from the shore, advice please

i have really enjoyed fishing spinners from the shore this "summer" for macky and have promised myself never to fish feathers again after seeing to many chava catches , my question is what other lures could i use from now on and what types of fish could i target and hope to catch ? , i bought some sidewinder lures and have some redgill rubber lures but can you use them from the shore and if so what terminal tackle would be needed as they seem to light to fish without some kind of weight added , any help /advice much appreciated davey

Jellyworms work really well for pollock and even cod. I prefer black and red, and fish them slowly along the bottom on a flowing paternoster weighed down with a couple of ounces, (depending on conditions) try Shields, Northumberland Roker, anywhere with rough ground and plenty kelp. You can also replace the Jellyworm for a frozen sandeel and use the above mentioned method.

2oz lead heads with curly/twin tails work from the rock edges and shore
cast into the kelp / weed(with the hook facing up you can usualy pull through the weed )
cod find them intresting so do the pollock
you can also bait the hook like you do on the boat if it offers any advantage i dont know
prepare to loose alot but it can produce some nice fish

what lures you using? for jeely worms just use a driled bullet lead and a 3 or 4 foot trace.

try this

swivel to top of trace line bead /swivel with quick release/bead /swivel then attach your hook lenth and hook to the bottom swivel

add a 1 oz lead to the quick realese swivle and jelly worm/ sandeel to hook

its basic but works

as for a running paternoster its a basic paternoster rig but dont use crimps /or stop knots to trap the swivel that takes the hook lenth

not sure about how to make them mate but the last few times i've been up there i've found float fishing very productive.

floatfished sandeel is my favourite method up there.

A basic running ledger, use a small snap swivel attach this to a 2oz-3oz lead thread the swivel onto the line so it is free flowing.Slide on a small buffer bead, then tie onto the line/leader another small swivel.Then a 24"-30" length of clear 30lb mono, no need to use any longer then this as it will just tangle. Then tie on your jellyworm or redgill Black are killers in 70mm or 120mm.I would replace the hooks for a strong Mustad bigeye 3/0. The bigger the eel/jellyworm the bigger the pollack.It would be advisable to tie on a rubbing leader 20ft of 40lb breaking strain as light line will snap on any rocks when the pollack dive for cover on the kelp etc.I've used orange red gills at Dunstanburgh Castle Craster with some success, work these hard along the bottom and wait for the fireworks..If fishing into dusk - darkness go for a bright coloured lure the luminous type which glow in the dark, these can be charged up with your head light.Don't think that its dark that spinning is a waste of time,the fish feed more freely under cover of darkness.This same method has worked for me for shore surf spinning for bass, mackeral, launce.From the rocks/kelp ive had cod, coalies, mackeral, pollack and bass.
