Decided to try my look last night, started off at lynemouth thinking it would fish it's t-t's off - from 7pm - 10pm, only one rockling caught via rod & line, I did manage to get a nice rays bream that had washed ashore flapping on the beach ! photo attached, filleted looks very nice fish, this will get some chili & garlic on it tonight for my tea !
Headed to fish blyth beach after hearing of good catch reports, fished the back of stubbleys farm , with only 1 codling for 1.5 lb which I returned to fight another day, wind was a pain , so packed up for 12.30 & headed home, out again soon.

It's a Ray's Bream mate, loads of them get washed up on our beaches every year, something to do with them getting lost while migrating then copping it due to the lovely warm North Sea waters IIRC.

Never heard of one getting caught on rod and line.

Yes its that time of year again when the Ray's bream start trying to walk on land...followed by the oar fish.

Good to see it was still fresh and making a tasty meal.

I was down Tynemouth this morning and the beach had a few lumpsuckers washed up dead, none bigger than 2lb but in the past seen some well over 4lb dead and caught one about 2lb from shields pier.

That's what I said it was in my posting mate , this was not caught with rod & line, as stated in my posting.
It got washed a shore in front of me lastnight, alive and flapping.

Some woman will be in the paper claiming one on rod and line with a photo of a half rotten fish in a few weeks time :) almost worked with the Oar fish.
