Hi,
Has any of you heard of any mackeral being taken of the piers a mate of mine said today that on Roker pier there was lads reeling in six at a time before they got chased off the pier as the sea lifted too badly, i personally couldn't believe it as the earliest i have seen mackeral off Roker was the beginning of june but they are only lying a mile of most of the piers although the current wind direction may have driven them out into deeper water.

Mackeral

Yep mate, It a worthy rumour with the boats gettin them less than a mile of. although my mate sometimes can talk s*** but it seems as though its true because a lad also told me there was lots of bait fish at the end of the old north pier and gullys were going mental for them, also fish were boiling for them he said it may have been salmon jumping up eating them but i said to him whilst salmon are running up the wear they don't feed and this is why you only see a few being foul hooked by anglers, i said there may have been coalfish as you don't get mackeral around the rathouse until they are well in and they have gone of the feathers for a little while.
If the sea flattens of loads you may get some next week hopefully.;)

The salmon jump to get rid of the sea lice as they move in to the river. You're info was right as they don't feed as they're going up stream. I saw some boils from Blyth pier on Saturday but luckily the water was that clear and they were that close that you could see it was launce attacking the sprat shoals.
