Mackerel?

Was wondering if/when the best time to go to Shields and get some of these was?

Me and my mates usually go at the end of May onwards. We normally catch them, take them straight home and hoy the BBQ on (weather permitting). If the weather isn't good, thy go straight in the pan. Lovely fresh.

Was kind of hoping if anyone was starting to catch them could they report it in here for me please. Thanks.

When they come in will be the best time probably around june, Just watch for people carrying cans and bottles of cider on the pier then walking off with bags of mackerel

Afraid he's telling it straight, not many but there were a few off the boats at the 7 mile mark yesterday!

I can assure you me and my friends won't be taking any cheap cider down there. Maybe a few small bottles of lager on a nice hot day but then that's pretty common on the pier at Shields.

No mate, I'm afraid they wont be this year, not on Shields anyway, something to do with the lunar cycle / abnormal algae and the shift in the continental drift. Apparently these same conditions mean they'll be throwing themselves onto Seaham Pier though, I'd definately go there instead.

personally i wouldnt thank you for a days macky bashing on a packed pier with lines crossing etc.

Theres alot of great rock marks in our region which can produce mackerel in the summer aswell as other species such as pollock or bass and none of the drama you get on the piers

Got a couple of Pollock last year spinning. Next to those huge rocks (boulders) on the right hand side on the way up the pier.

Tasted absolutely spot on as well.
