Still fun on heavy gear I think mate. Many a time I've been reeling in a worm bait from distance and been hit by a cracking macky on the way in.

You used the 'M' word... Mr Charlton will be salivating like a boxer dog looking at a Sunday Roast just out of its reach on the dinner table.....

Fun, getting down to the pier with a windless warm morning just as the sun comes up to co-incide with the high tide, clear water and pure anticipation - that time of day when the manic chav's and hoards of obnoxious kids are all still in bed.

Getting home with a couple of mackies for the dog's breakfasts (sorry Alan!), suddenly being a God and the rest of the household being utterly ignored until they come through full with a major happy wag overload going on.

it's alright the dog gets a few mackerel off me, so I need even more, more, more. All this talk about mackerel, hope they come in soon.

I love mackerel, it signals the start of the "real" boating season for me, means i can take family on the pier and have a good chance of catching a fish either mackerel, coalie or launce.

The only thing i hate about mackerel fishing is the amount that get killed just to go to waste.

agree with u chief....the amount of needless slaughter is unbelievable...i pretty much count how many i want ..which is usually about five or so ... then switch to some other fishing for the day if i get my quota .......hmmm mackerel....made som spiced mackerel last flipping lovely .....cant wait to get some nice ones this yr.....ive heard they are quite nice done sashimi style......will wait and see...my charlton....i`m just as eager as u are when it comes to the mackerel season ....albeit not to fond of the chavs that come along with it .. .

Still prefer about 6.30pm on a sunny saturday, dodging the flying sinkers, empty beer cans, pools of sick and p*ss, foul mouthed yobs, chip cartons and dead mackerel everywhere! NOT:mad:

im defo gonna eat more mackerel this year hoping my hair turns white like a certain guy i have a feeling i might need a few ton yet :D :D :D

my hair turned white dodging sinkers on roker pier last year marra.....rustle and snap ...that all too familiar sound of a sinker parting with a mainline .......duck ...might wear a helmet this yr if im fishing peak hour .....

I reckon more chav activity this year, should be a load of domestics on the pier with lack of funds etc. It's the governments fault:D

wasn't the mackerel that turned it white, after bring up two sons with no bother along came a daughter, turned white almost over night. Eat the mackerel to try and get it back to its original dark brown.

Shame on you Alan ! I remember you bringing your daughter fishing to just about every BOTAC match she was a good little angler. Your hair was broon then but you could have easily hidden a badger in it.

I recon we should be happy at our age to have hair of any colour

the little rascal used to outfish me every time, that's why I stopped taking her (only joking) won the Whitley Bay junior champion at nine, second when ten. Hair white as snow now, but still trying to hide badgers in it.
