i was fishing of blyth pier thismorning at first light they were there in huge numbers a fish every cast nearly, also you could see them flying out the water chasing the sand eels
I was over at the Heugh at H/pool a few weeks back and everyone was taking about a lad who filled two carrier bags full of macky. Then a week later I spoke to a lad there who says it was him and stated he was casting off the Heugh and almost immediately was bringing in 2-3 fish per cast until his bags were full. The half dozen times I've been I've only seen about half a dozen small macky being bought out. There was a rumour going around about a Polish trawler being impounded that had been following the shoals around and catching them in the tonnes.... who knows?
Good show of macky off Blyth Pier this morning, in fact you probably could have hooked them from the beach. Got enough in three hours to keep me going for the winter.
