Well guys John managed to get 11 of us together so we could have a look out. Things started off very promising when a lad pulled up a nice cod form a wreck we drifted over about 4 miles out. The fish looked about 3-1/2pound.Then it just went quiet.
We moved onto rough ground and i caught a nice Ling about 4lb.
We stayed on rough ground moving about and hit a shoal of Mackeral. We were catching small whities and quite a few small Ling.
I pulled a cod up about 1-2 lb I was going to let it go but it was bleeding badly from the swallowed hook so i kept it.
Some people on the boat blanked and tangles were rife. (minus point of braid).
The weather worsened as the day wore on and i ended up throwing up. this did not stop me fishing. All in all a good day but i will be leaving the boat fishing now until next year (and flat seas). Why am i still going up and down as i write this.
Oh me and the lad i was standing next to on the boat split the £1 per man heaviest fish competition.
I used mackeral and squid and jiggers the other people were using did well.:)

Nice to get out at this time of year. Bet that mackerel fished well for the ling, its great still having them around this late on. I have never caught one any later than the 24th of Oct in our waters.

Jason i was thinking about the boats capabilities when we came in. It just carved through the seas. You can here the power in the engines and the ride is fantastic.There is no way i could buy a boat for fishing like Maggie.

Other guys were using shads on the boat but they did,nt do anything.

I do not understand why it goes quiet over the winter period when boat fishing but i suppose if there is no mackeral there is nowt for the fish to eat.:question:

Oh and i bought my macky in Morrisons. 3 for £1;75.

Good pics but in my opinion if they got into trouble you have to say "its your own fault" i mean 30knots in them conditions..bloddy silly, the waves are so close together you cant just ride over them.

If i was a life boat person i would report them for dangerous driving just like when someone is being silly on the road...it is putting other peoples lifes at risk that have t go out and help them.
 
well dun on ur day out m8 just looked at a few of them photos and videos like s##t would i go on a boat in seas like that prity iinpressive tho
 
c`mon Rich, they`re not taking parties out in the pics they`re just sea trialing it ............. I sure as hell feel better to know my boat (or type) has been through this type of rugged sea trial before I sign on the dotted line. At least I know nothing I give it will be a problem if it`s been through that.
 
Jason, those pics are awesome mate. Excuse my ignorance but are all boats not tested like that, in extreme conditions so that there capabilities and limits are known before an emergency?

That was always my understanding of such things....the boats are driven by professionals who are trained to test the boat to the 'nth degree of its limits...I would be very surprised if the Coast Guard are not aware when boats undergo such tests
 
Yeah Jim, standard practice for type approval (although the sea conditions and therefore trials will vary depending upon wht type is being approved :) ) ........ all in conjunction with rescue boats
 
Totally right jim - the trials would have been conducted to strict limits and safety guide lines. If a boat of that size is skippered correctly there is slim change that it would be out in the worse weather imaginable but in the worse case scenario i know i would want to be in a boat that is capable of handling the worse that can be thrown at it.

When John on Maggie may had the boat delivered it was driven up the east coast in a force 8 and handled that with no problems - they did apparently have to sit in the leeward side of a large merchant ship for some part of the way, John says that he is more than happy knowing should the worse weather blow up suddenly although uncomfortable the boat would get him and more importantly his passengers to safety however John would always stress that if the weather is looking slightly dodgy when forecast he would always er on the side of caution and not put to sea.

The skipper in the trials would just be like a airplane's test pilot. Push it to the limits but in a controled manner and within set perameters.
 
Jason you are 100% right there. On two occasions John has said to me weather may worsen later but we,ll give it a look out. BE WARNED WE MAY COME BACK IN.
I think the guys a great skipper and thats why i enjoy going out on his boat.

would of love to have been along for the ride on some of those sea trial vids!
