Hi lads after a little info,or pointing in the right direction, Im looking for a web site that shows wrecks of the N.E coast, predominantly off Whitley Bay, we have a 12ft Dory on the Boat Station at W/Bay beach and only travel a mile or two up and down the coast and only a mile or so out, so Im looking for wrecks in that sort of area, We have all the safety gear but no gps/fishfinder Im wondering if an `app` on a mobile phone is accurate enough to be used to find wrecks or are they crap,We normaly fish about a mile out off the lighthouse roughly level with the yellow can and drift about , leaving the tide & wind take us to were it wants to, not to far though, it can be a bit hit and miss at times,,although we do hit a patch or two when we both start catching at the same time and depending on the drift we will land several fish in a very short time, Im guessing that we have passed over a wreck ,then nothing for a while then bang another mad 10 mins then nothing,It would be handy to know were these wrecks are, any info would be great cheers

£25 a year subscription and i would imagine u could use it on the phone but not 100% sure
(alot of skippers wont reveal there hotspots so its trial and error to learn which ones produce the best bounty)

You will be able to get over any wreck using the navionics app for the iphone , but without a fishfinder you won't know for sure that it is there.
It might be a bit of a fiddle to do but if you have the navionics app (£15.99 I think) you will be able to mark a waypoint where you catch fish and then go back to that spot with some degree of accuracy and try the exact same spot again , without a fishfinder you won't have any idea why that spot is a hot spot but that dosen't really matter , I have a few such spots in my plotter , nearly always catch a fish or two when I go over them
If you want to fish wrecks though , you need a fishfinder to confirm the exact location of the wreck , I suppose you could drag a lead along the bottom till you find it , but it isn't going to be a very accurate method
In a small boat like yours with a limited budget I'd try to get a fishfinder attached and an iphone navionics app or just fish like you have been letting the wind and tide take you where it wants and then mark the productive spots so you know where they are for future trips.
When I first started out from a small boat I had a fishfinder but no plotter , I could find drop offs , humps , weed , hard ground and such , but had a hell of a job finding it again after we had drifted on a while , if there were pots about you could just about get back to the same spot , but next time out if the pots had moved it was near impossible to get over the same mark again.
With a plotter or the navionics app it is easy , still have to find the fish though before you can put a waypoint where they are
