Alrite lads, im fishing later today and contemplating the wherry, black path or johnstons. Any advice on how to fish these marks (casting distance/direction) would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
JP

jp cast out to sea when ya hear a splash ya know youve reached water i wud use rotten bottoms mind ,but beware of the whitburn "GHOST" he be watching ya close by :o

And watch for the Marsden farter ghost, smell him when i,m fishing the shelves at night, no one believed me until i took wor lad and he smelled him too.

"The Ghost" only patrols from The black steele to the south up to Souter in the north, thats his turf. Anywhere north of that is out of his comfort zone, but you just never know.

tony this ghost is a real one.
i remember bob euna and mesel fishing the 3 shelves, late 70's,cold winters night massive sea on,cant remember if we caught out or not.
all of a sudden there was a whack on eunas back,i was standing right next to him so i heard it,sounded like someone lashing sea weed or the likes,we hunted around with our lights and couldnt see anything.needless to say we reeled in sharpish and legged it.
i wasnt scared like

Not to mention the sound of a horse galloping along Marsden beach but when you put your lamp on there's nothing to see.

I was told that Marsden gets it's name from "Mares Den" after the legend of the horse belonging to the daughter of a Saxon King that used to travel on her horse to meet her lover in the bay. She was killed there with her lover and her horse.
The ghost of the horse gallops along the beach looking for her.

I could have made all that up though, ;)

Regards Ian

Never heard a horse down there before but I have been spooked by the sound of foot steps across the pebbles somewhere behind me but when turned to look there was no one there. Never have I got off that beach and up those wooden steps as fast as that night, the Benny Hill music wouldn't have been out of place, my legs must have been a blur.

Thats true Ian, Iv'e heard the horse a few times down there, also " Jack the Blaster " wanders around the first and second bays, especially when there is no moon and it's pitch black. :D

Fishing the shelves on Friday, hope i dont get slapped with seaweed though! seriously though if anyone fishes there at night i bet you smell him, have even said out loud "by you stinky effa" before i remembered i was by myself.

on the subject- i could think of worse places.

try fishing dunstanbourgh castle till 4am then walking back to craster over a mile away.

that walk through the castle ruins, on ya todd , foxes eyes reflected by the lamp. :o

Now that takes some beating.
