Went down to marsden with me father last night to see if i could christen me new rod. Got there at 7:30 pm to fish up to high tide, bait was fresh Lug and rag. First cast of the night resulted in a 15 cm long codling which me father caught. The next cast resulted in a flounder of 23 cm which he caught aswell. At this point I had caught nothing and was wondering what i was doing wrong. The next cast me father did resulted in a cracking bite which sent the rod tip crazy, father struck into it and had up the beach a 30 cm coley.

I had been fishing 2 hook clipdowns and nothing was happening so i decided to change to a single paternoster rig with size 1 hooks the same as me fatherand baited up with single lug. this change resulted in a flounder of 20 cm. The next cast that i did resulted in a 16 cm bearded rockling at this point i was not the best to fish to christen me rod with but still something to catch. Father then reeled in a codling of 15 cm, decided at 11:00 pm to do last cast so baited up with the biggest lug worm i had and sent it out seconds later had tip was rattling and reeled it in which was a codling of 15 cm. Ended the night 4: 3 to the father a narrow victory. All fish took either took straight lug or lug combined with rag but wouldn't touch straight rag.

Well done, pity nothing big, but good fun to have a busy session with a few different species.

I’m down there tonight (or shields beach) i’ve got a little bit of mussel and lug left, but main bait will be rag (should have read your report before going to the bait shop!)
