Mcafee stay well clear

After using separate mcafee suite on my PC and my wife’s laptop with wireless connection, with no problem, I decided to get a three user suite to cover both and protect wireless connection, contacted Mcafee who directed me to their 3 users suite which I down loaded after some problems. What a mistake, couldn’t get it onto my wife’s PC even after following Mcafee written instructions, their e mail tech support couldn’t solve the problem, their virtual tech support couldn’t and tried to blame Netgear, which is recommended by mcafees, Net gear tech spent ages re configuring router and configuring network, no joy. Still Mcafee kept saying try this, do that went away on holiday hoping a solution would be waiting, didn’t answer e mail, their stalling and not being able to solve the problem took me beyond automatic refund, which I now know is next to impossible to get, see links below. The problem was solved by someone who I had to pay, remove mcafee problem solved wireless networking fine, everything fine. Outcome Mcafee have my money, even thought under consumer act 1982 they are liable for a refund of the purchase price of the security suite and the charge for getting PC’s up and running, don’t answer e mails requesting refund, e mail address of their head office or superior. Check out the links below or just type in Mcafee complaints into any search engine and see what you get. My advice keep well clear of mcafee, and if you have it get rid of it.

A mate of mine got Mcafee free with sky broadband ...... it's not worked yet and like you the tech. support are stumped , absolutely shocking.

Macfee is great man Alan!! Hackers will never access your network, unfortunatley, neither will you :D Norton aint much better either.

I just stick to the free ones.

I don't like McAfee either, also not to keen on Norton although think its better than McAfee. A mate who knows his pc stuff put me onto Kaspersky. Got onto their website for a bit look around, downloaded a free 3 month trial, thought it was best one I've had so bought 1yr package for 3pc's for £30. You can buy it nicely boxed up in PC World for £50, probs more for the 3pc package, or do what I did and buy online direct off their website. Personally I think its best Internet Security stuff I've had.

Norton is rubbish, uninstall it and get rid...it integrates itself into your system to the point that if you don't use it/update it etc it will crash everything else until it gets its way...

....I'll say this first too - get a Mac....there's a few out there lurking smugly :p:D

the guy who sorted mine out put AVG on, totally free and apparently picks up virus's that others miss. He has his own business and uses nothing else, says mcafee and norton cause to many problems with wireless networks. Protect your wireless network by putting a password in your router and no problems. I can pick up networks in the area who dont do this. Have heard Kaspersky is good as well.

I use AVG as well and just the firewall on the wireless router ,I used zone alarm suite before I went wireless and it was great . As well as hiding my wireless network and password protecting it only pc's with specific MAC addresses can access it namely the two in my house.

cant beat panda security, had it for a good few years now. i pay on line for it and works fine
I had problems over Christmas with my PC,basically had to start from Scratch again,I used Panda a year or two ago then went back to AVG but was adviced to go back to PANDA once my system was sorted and never had a problem since, cant even recall why i dumped it,probably ill adviced lol.
I bought a Laptop for my son at Christmas and got the usual complimentary phone call from PC World who were trying to sell me a half price copy of NORTON (would'nt even have it for free),I told them i would just use AVG and thanks for the offer, the Tech Guy/Learn Direct Student informed me that AVG comes pre installed with a Trojan "yip right'o see ya".Curious i googled it and found out this is actually true or so they say, probably the only thing he learned at his apprenticeship ;)
"I pay online for it"
Its probably the only thing i would pay for, excellent value for money Mark

I had Norton with my laptop when I got it and when it reached it's trial end period, my wirless started playing up. (am with BT Total Broadband) phoned the tech guys, was put in touch with a smashing bloke in a call centre in India, and he remotely removed Norton, sorted out me wirless problems and installed the BT protection (think it's Norton again) and had no prblems since!
Fantastic service from BT
