David; I don't know if any of these links will help you out any. Two are schematics with the part numbers for both the plastic and metal spools, the other is a place selling Mitchell spares.
The 600P, 600AP, 602P, and 602AP all had plastic spools and I don't think metal spools were an option. The 622 and 624 boat reels both had metal spools.
My first multiplier , although it was a pig to use. Terrible retrieve, birdnests whenever it liked, and would get any amount of grit between the spool and cage. I got a red Abu 7000 for Christmas and it was like a Rolls Royce in comparison
My first multi was a 602AP. One spool gave up the ghost pumping a huge ball of weed on Warkworth Beach when it crushed and gave way.
My mate had his first cast with his at the ice house and birds nested it, got about 10 yards. Picked it out in a couple of minutes (got used to that) and got a 3lb codling, his PB at the time.
Happy memories, still remember the line we used, 20lb blue Sylcast from Temples
