Three of us made the usual annual trip to the mull staying at new England bay. Fished for bass Thursday evening but no luck. No locals fishing so that tells you what its like. According to the lad in Ardwell tackle shop two fish were caught a couple of nights ago 7 lb and 5.5 lb. He was telling the same tale everyday we were in so god knows if these fish ever existed. On the Friday went to port Gill and the flat rock. Not one fish between us. Talking to lads in the Clash on the Friday night it was the same all over.
Saturday went to Ardwell bay. Plenty of Pollack to 2 lb, coalies and some good wrasse. Must have had at least twenty fish each.
Sunday tried all over the place and only one mackerel between us.
Fished for bass every night into the dark but only managed one between us going about 2 lb. Loads fishing for the bass but nothing showing.
All fish caught returned to fight another day.
Had a very enjoyable weekend but disappointed that we walked long distances to different marks but very few fish to show for it. The fish are becoming few and far between even up there.

The problem theres hundreds of guys like your selves fishing the same bit of coastline no resident fish left place flogged to death more isolated places ie like isle of skye fish a chuck rock edges up torridon way

I always thought that the flat rock was half way up the road when you turn off the main road going to Port Logan heading towards Logan Bay. No lighthouse up there. Please educate me if I am wrong lads.

That's the Mull of Logan - Mull Hill, that you are talking about, w-nw of Drummore. The lighthouse, is at the Mull of Galloway at the south end of the Rhins Penninsula around 6 mile south of Drummore..

I fish there every year and there are load of places that hold good heads of fish if you're prepared to walkabout.

The coastline is huge, and some of the marks are hardly, if ever, fished.

The likes of Lagvag are fished to death now, as is the Isle of Whithorn, but what opened my eyes was when I went out in my mates boat up there and seen the fish caught within casting distance of some accessible marks.

My mate who's lived up there all his life says the fishing really hasn't got going up there at all this year - its just natures way.

I wouldn't write the mull off just yet.

Spot on with that report davyred funny as i was reading this report my phone was ringing only my mate up the mull just got up the there went up the flat rock in to fish from the ofdogfish macky pollock one lad got a cany conger then bang his phones of fishing as well as well as ever roll on next week end

Just got off the phone to my mate who lives up there. He says its been really poor this year as summer hasn't really caught up with the late start to the season. He reckons he's seen it happen before, so theres always next year lads.

He's still managed Bass to 8lb off the shore though.

six of us went to the mull on monday and tuesday 12/13th august 2013, tenting at Sands of Luce camp site (good showers, pub and cafe). On the Monday we fished the flat rocks next to the lighthouse and caught very little in a strong westerly wind. On Tuesday we went to Port Patrick and fished off the "yellow rocks" (follow footpath South Upland Way towards golf course then head to rock outcrop coloured yellow due to the lichen). We filled two cool boxes with all manner of fish especially some good pollack caught on mackerel strip fished on the bottom. The locals were telling us that it had been a very poor year up there for tope and bass but we seemed to have no trouble at the yellow rocks. Sorry no pics.
