Mounting runnydown?!

When up in Whitby last week, I used runnydown for the very first time believe it or not. Don\'t remember it being readily available in the 70\'s when I used to fish regularly.

Didn\'t think to ask in the tackle shop, so threaded worms up the hook shank as I would normally do with live worm. Worked OK but bait sagged down the hook easily unless tipped with squid or macky.

On returning home, I\'ve read an old article in Sea Angler which recommends you cut the runny into 5inch strips then wrap bait elastic round to make a thicker bait, then mount it on the hook. Is that right? What do you guys do?

Being out of the sea fishing scene for so long, I have a lot to catch up on!! :o

I normally just thread them on the same as live lug but wrap it in squid and bind with elastic so you have a sausage shape bait.

Derek it is much easier to use if you use a Pennel rig mate but as Ian says you can wrap it up with your squid using your bait elastic.

Jim.

i just hook it on the top hook on a pennel then wrap it on downover toward the bottom hook. its easier to remove when u dont thread it on.

got to agree runny down can be worse than nora batteys tights :D :D

if you dont want to use a pennell with a big hook on the top i used to use a samll carp hook :)

Derek hope you got my email with the diagram of my little secret invention keep it to yourself m8 mkX ;) ;)

I will share mine - whip your bare hook with elastic up and down and slightly round the gape of the hook - then put any bait on - the elastic on the hook works perfectly in holding your bait on when you then whip the bait on as normal with bait elastic and doesnt affect any hooking of fish - Stevie elliot (Codonly ) showed me this about 3 years ago and i still use it now

Thanks for the advice lads, I\'ll try all those suggestions when I\'m next up.

Missed a little bit off my 1st post, the 5inch strips of runny are folded 3 times before being strangled by the elastic, then mounted.

Cheers Derek

ps. Got your email Roy thanks - quality sketch. ;) ;) ;) ;)
