you have more chance of seeing a one leged man winning an arse kicking contest than seeing a double figure bass up here , i have fished all my life and the best bass i have caught is 4 pound , never targeted them , caught by lady luck ,never seen or heard any doublers in the nets either , but there is definetly more getting caught each year

lol thanks mate.
I thought mayb a few got caught but kept hush,i dont wana know specific marks etc,jus wondered if any about.
sure i read an old thread that said netters where gettin doubler bass occasionsly in ne.

Personally I dont think it will be long before one gets caught, especially as they dont tend to get targeted that much. I remember Gazzawill getting one of nine pound or so a couple of years ago and I would suspect many others have been caught and kept hush hush.
As has been said there has been a big increase in bass off the north east in the last few years and mummy and daddy have to be around somewhere.

the biggest i have had was 7lb from cambois when the pipe was there biggest i have seen was9lb from lynemouth while cod fishing about 15 years ago

I'm sure someone caught one of 11lbs South Shields beach a few years ago, and I'm convinced there are double figure bass around our coastline. Every year more and more appear. Whilst most are much smaller, they are easier to find as smaller fish tend to shoal. However much larger bass are more solitary, but personally, I think it is only a matter of time before someone hooks and lands one.
Don't forget not everyone reports their catches, whether they are members on here or not, so I bet a few more have been caught already.

Yeah must have bene over 8 years ago that one got caught their... North side of the big beach, but the odd one mooching around. Never seen many brought in on the quay, just odd ones 6-7lb.

Southerners seem to have it easier :P haha

im sure if some of the small inshore boats targeted them with live sandeel it would throw up some bigguns.

there was a guddin on steetly a few years back too.

shame the piers nearly gone:( used to be more good fish on there than anywhere.
and a lot of them were dropped off ha :Dha

There was a one of 11lb I think reported on here a couple of year ago, caught down ryhope way If i can recall

Tried looking for the post but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack:D
I can recall I had a conversation with charlton about the quality of the pic and he was explaining why it wasn't good enough for publication, something like that anyways

these are the biggest I have recorded, loads around 5-7lb and a few 8-9lb

Bass P Farnell 10 2 0 Filey Brigg
Bass Joeseph Bamfield 10 7 8 Scarborough
Bass Alan Tompkinson 11 4 4 South Shields Big Beach
Bass Stephen Softly 11 6 3 Steetley

i know of one around 9lb a year or so from a beach north of the tyne.
a few others around the 7-8lb mark but over a period of years.
best i have had from the same place was just under 4lb.

none of the fish were being targeted from what i have heard, just fishing for cod.

i have seen a few people out late on or early on trying to target them and doing quite well with lures ;D

You're wrong mate. I know of one but I've been sworn to secrecy about the mark, although I can say it was south of SS pier, and north of Seaham pier.

The lad who got it fishes for them regularly and has good success.

there are bass taken all over the northeast coast people just dont target them enough, i am a member on the lure forum and see them taken regular on our coast but marks are kept secret. which i can understand as they will be netted off almost straight away.

i cant wait to get out onto some local marks this coming year and target them a lot more with lures etc. just a case of finding them.
