I'd be looking into better gloves or pocket warmer rather than level wind reel.

I know its not the reply you were looking for, but have you tried hand warmers m8? They make a real difference.
aye rocker , i have 3 , but when im waiting for a bite or baiting up the cawld gets in and them handwarmers cant be trusted neither . not being 21 makes the circulation not as good into the pinkies.

i also prefer to fish without gloves..
i have handwarmers but they dont always last the session and dont light easily in the wind.
i suffer with very bad circulation in my hands and can only last a minute or two when its really cold before i,m in a lot of pain. i actually started to go into shock on the end of a pier one night because of it.
i use a pair of thin neoprene gloves for walking to a venue and carrying my gear.
if my handwarmers fail i also carry a pair of ... acrtic neoprene gloves ... with just the finger tips cut out.
they are bulky and take some getting used to but.... it means i can fish comfortably in any conditions.
without any of the above i'd have to pack in winter fishing all together.
you could go down the level wind rout but you will loose distance and your hands will still get cold holding your rod and baiting up.

thanks for the reply, its the popping on and off of gloves i cant stand , cant reel in with glove on left hand , if i went the level wind route i could probably wear gloves all the time and just remove to bait up . distance wont be a problem , i get as far now with a 6500 chrome cs , just need something heavier for seaham pier .
so has anyone got an akios 757 ???

Don't know about the Akios but if your going down the Abu 7 route, buy an older second hand one, the new ones aren't a patch on the old ones. I've had a 7000 and a 7500 since the 90s and they are still spot on.

I use pound shop fingerless gloves with rubber nobbley bits on the palms and keep a zippo handwarmer in my pocket , I keep the gloves on the whole sesh and even if they get a bit wet they still keep the back of ya hands warm , don't leave them in ya box tho ( they stink ) just wash and put on the radiator for the next time .
so do i and not have a problem . also the wearing of salopettes with your hands tucked inside the pockets oif a fleece is a good idea too kjeeps my hands warm enough too reel in bait up and cast out then hands straight back in pocket till next time to reel in

ive used a 6500 level wind for years m8 and have had no problems...I am quite sure you have been down the hand warmer /glove route and come to the conclusion of using a good level wind is your answer... well your right.!!!!! on dark nights the level winder does the work you will have fewer birds nests..you will not cast out quite as far as a level wind free multiplier but its only an insignificant amount.....many many of the purists[people who think they are the best because they can cast the farthest] look down on people using level winds as some kind of novice or inferior angler but take no notice because some of these same people would rather just cast onto a field ,just to brag how far they can cast,rather than go fishing. remember fishing is to be enjoyed...
