Hi All
i was wondering if anyone knew where abouts they used to dredge mussels of hartlepool was it close to port or off shore or further up

it seems there used to be quite a few mussel dredgers working so they must be some mussel beds

sean

I think the area you are on about that used to be known as the mussel beds are from just north of steetley up to the viaduct from about 1.5 to 5 miles out. Not many mussels on there now due to the dredging but can be excellent for ground cod - most of the year round it fishes but can be excellent may time.

hi there thanks for the reply

but where is the viaduct ??

and the ground is it sand or hard ground with patches of mussels left ???

thanks again sean

the viaduct is the one you see from the road when you go to blackhall from crimdon. the ground is rough ground but has been scraped by years of dredging and i dont know if there is many mussels left.

i am also wondering where the turbot nets are placed as i know that the hartlepool has boats that net the turbot might make good fishing

yes you can see the viaduct from the sea just keep going up north from the caravans (Crimdon Dean) there are some areas up there that are great. If you ever need a crew let me know and i will be more than happy to come out with you and show you some specific areas. Do you have a chart plotter.
Regards Jason

and answering your question i do have a chart plotter with the chart for the north east

will let you know once she is up and running and in the marina will have to try some offshore wrecks got a couple of readings from an old skipper

Hi Sean,
We used to drift from 1 mile out from Steetley up to the top of Crimdon caravan Park and you drifted inshore and back down to Steetley ending up about 1/4 mile out from the pier. This drift covered a good chunk of the mussel beds. We used to get good Codling, Plaice and Catfish usually between June - October.
