Negative fishing talk!!!

I wish I had mentioned it too David, but I didn't understand what you meant as I knew you had been talking to him after I introduced him mate. I would'nt worry about it, I would expect that James will find it quite humourous lol.

There will have be a lot worse things said on NESA in the past and no doubt there will be in the future. It's what is known as a misunderstanding, nothing more nothing less. I think a lot of it could be layed at my door, the amount of times I have complained about people not turning up for comps and not letting the organisers know they were not coming. I have had this conversation with you a lot of times David as I have with others and that is the reason I asked several times that people not able to turn up on the night to let us know.

Lets just put it down to the old adage s**t happens lol.

I probably wouldn't feel so negative if the current state of fishing WAS so negative....I have fished all my life, from sitting on the rocks at Boulmer as the tide came in as a 5 year old, with a clothes peg for a rod, 10ft of 2lb line, tiny hooks and limpets for bait. We had no knife so had to bite the limpet into hook size portions, and would then fish fro blennies as they came out of their holes.
I remember going out in a 'towie' (rowing boat), and would fill up within the space of an hour. Those days are long gone, and maybe my short sighted approach to catching on the boat has contributed somewhat to the current state of fisheries.

I gave up fishing with Alnwick SAC 2 years back, mainly through time restraints, but also because I was getting sick of blanking, along with many other lads, during the doldrums from the end of December through till February, when the club season ended.
I have since picked the best times and tides to fish, with the best conditions possible and have blanked, when years ago I wouldn't have. Why is that? I believe it is because the fish aren't there! They are concentrated in small pockets, with the odd red cod taking up residence. Flounders are'nt there in the numbers they used to be either, they make great pot bait apparently.

Trust me I'd be out every week and spending my money at the local tackle shop readily if I DID believe there were cod out there, without the expectation of just going down and throwing my bait in. Fishing isn't just about the catch, but when you're blanks far outweigh your catches, it's time to think about an alternative.
I do more fly fishing than sea fishing now, because i know there are fish there, and it is up to my skill in knowing what fly and line to use to catch a fish, and if I blank it's because I have done something wrong or lady luck hasn't gone my way, not that the water is barren and devoid!

Some people have had a good winter season and fair play to them for being in the right place at the right time.....Lets see how long it lasts.

all of us on this site love fishing which means by definition trying to catch fish . you can all go on as much as you like about the fresh air or the wild life, meeting mates, etc but the be all and end all of our sport is catching fish, that's why every one on this forum goes fishing, people go on about the old times when the fish where in abundance, they have a right when i started i caught more cod on a hand line than i do today with my carbon ,14ft whatever and my penn super mag,the simple fact of the matter is the fishing is nowhere near as good as it used to be, that's why every one on this site goes on about the virtues of fishing in norway, because they know they will catch decent fish, so please don't go on about not catching fish but the experience was good ,i go out in the middle of winter to catch cod and when i don't and i blank i get ****ed off.

I fished a club match yesterday at Seaham. Blanked and me and lost some gear to a rouge wave.
So what i,ll be back next week-60 mile round trip to my old home at Hartlepool. Having a few hours on my favourite pier the Heugh.
Its took me nearly 2 years to catch another nice size fish after my 7lb er caught off Steetly--and that was my 5 1/2 pounder couple of weeks ago.
Still trying for my first doubler. When it comes i might just kiss the bu--er and let it go.

fishin is exactly that, fishin. if it was that easy it would be called catchin, i just enjoy gettin out and havin a bit craic and although it's nice to hav a blinder of a sesh it, catchin fish is a bonus

Agree you have to have an open mind but just look at club results to see that there is not much out there and you need to have a hope to be optimistic.
