Have a good trip Mike and stay safe, looking at the forecast for Weymouth Chesil might be a bit on the dangerous side to fish for a few days

They are quite common on the south coast, I probably caught far more Corkwings than Ballans when I lived down there.

A good catch for you Mike, doubt there will be many others with a Corkwing on the species hunt. All you need now is a settled spell and a Black Bream

Pouting, anal vent is below first dorsal fin rather than to rear as in Poor Cod

First picture is a bit meh, second picture is fairly clear if you draw an imaginary line vertically upwards from the anal vent. It does have large eyes which are a characteristic of Poor Cod but the position of the anal vent in relation to the dorsal fin is the definitive id feature

well it was the large eye that caught my eye which made me think it might of been poor cod . still a pouting is another point for the lad
