NESA Species Hunt 2013

Well done Mike, Weymouth pier is a cracking venue for species hunting. I'm surprised you haven't had a lot more "mini" species to be honest, is the weather as cack down there as it is up home at the moment?

As for the Bullheads, agree they are both Long Spined. I've had a few and have been desperate to try to id one as a Short Spined but no joy so far...

Yeah the weather was terrible most of last week - strong southerlies making Chesil unfishable at times but I managed a few off Weymouth Pier which was not as bad as Chesil. I am in Cornwall now and the weather is great for a spot of lure fishing :)

Table updated lads.

Here's some for me to keep me on the top :)

Following a discussion in the Lure Fishing forum (Lure Fishing Challenge section) fish which have been caught by being foul hooked are no longer allowed in the Species Hunt. All fish must be caught by the fish biting the hook resulting in it becoming hooked in the mouth or "gut hooked" by swallowing it. I have added a rule to the first post to cover this. See here for more info http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/lure-fishing/167835-new-lure-challenge-2013-a-15.html

As a result of this I have removed my Launce from the table as that was caught by being foul hooked through the back on a spinner. This drops my score by one point but I am still in first place :D

It looks like a Long Spined to me. The gills look seperate not joined like they are in a Short Spined. Or is it just the membrane lying flat against the body in your photo? What do you reckon?

Thanks bassboyo. Yes the membrane was lying flat against the body in the other photo, the gills were joined. This was as close a photo I could take with the camera on my phone.
