NESA Species Hunt 2013

Colouration does matter mate. That's where the names come from. The Greater Spotted Dogfish (Huss) has greater (bigger) spots and the Lesser Spotted Dogfish has lesser (small) spots. Have a look at this picture from the LRSAC website you can clearly see the difference. The GSD is on the top and the LSD is on the bottom. Both the fish posted in the hunt have the smaller lesser spots of an LSD.

I was meaning the colour of markings as apposed to size of markings probly should of said in more detail, i was refering to geordies comments about colour of the belly. Wee vers lsd had big spots and ive seen a fair few huss photos that have small spots or relatively small to the size of the fish

but yea deffo agree that on the whole thats the case hence the names like you say.

Suppose cross breeding is inevitable aswell so that may cause common charachteristics.

Oh I see mate, sorry misunderstood your post.

Table updated.

Can I just remind everyone that when submitting your pictures could you please take a photograph of the whole fish not just part of it which will help confirm it's identity. Also where appropriate can you please also take a close up photo of identifying features e.g. barbels on rockling, undersides on sea scorpions etc. Thanks lads.
