fished club match lastnight, keith went up north looking around the beaches yesterday at low water looking 4 any holes but weed everywhere until 1 place looked very fishy with a great swell smashing the beach & no weed
a lad that keith did a job 4 was interested in sea fishing as keith seen a sea angler when he was there, this lad (mick) that only ever fished off a boat b4 desided 2 join our club lastnight & come with us 2 learn some marks.
on the way up i said 2 keith i bet he bags up lol, any way we got 2 our mark & the 3 of us chucked out. keiths lead got pulled out so he pulled back in 2 rebait mick got a load of weed on so had 2 pull in 2, i was stood when i ot a ripping take almost pulled rod out my hand but did'nt come back so as i set myself again the line went slack 2 wound down & hit it fish on & a nice plump cod of 3lb dead.then keith in straight after me & landed a 1lb-1oz cod then u guest it mick in2 his 1st ever shore cod 5lb-6oz y na wot it is
anyway we thought we were in 4 a good sesh but not 2 b we moved 3 times 50 - 100 yrds each time 2 a new hole & lost a few fish in the surf & missed a few slack liners but a canny night. we did'nt know until half way through the sesh that mick was only using 20 main line straight through without a shocker, how he was managing 2 chuck a 6oz lead out had us stumped let alone land a nice fish in a crashing surf
so we need 2 teach him from scratch
we got back 2 our weigh in & 11 fished only us 3 weighed in & yes u guessed it mick signed up & got heavy'est fish & bag
well done 2 mick he was buzzing
mind u he did'nt look 2 sure when i told him its a low water shot next week & we wade chest deep on2 marks 300-400 metres off sore
i think his butt cheecks were talking

Always the way mate; I remember fishing a summer league match up Seahouses year before last, we had a lad with us on only his second time out. Well he could only cast about 15-20 yards & his first chuck landed a couple of rod lengths away from me, in fact slightly behind me as I was standing on the end of a small skeer.

"Oh well" I thought, he'll soon get the hang of things, of course 5 minutes later he's pulling one out about 6 1/2lbs, ends up with the heaviest fish of the day & about £80 for his efforts. "It's easy this sea-fishing lark innit"(or words to that effect) he was saying later........

Must add I don't think he weighed in again the rest of the summer.......

Enjoyed reading that Billzo, sods law with beginners luck though seen it happen many a time.Well done on getting out and on catching.

Ha good read Bill , and well done to the lad. Got to say well done to keith for doing the homework and finding the right spot as well though.:):)

Don't know what it is with beginners but the times they end up with a biggie is unreal. Loads of time when troutfishing beginners pick up the bigger trout because they fish very close in where they patrol , when more experienced anglers tend to fish further out.

It's good to hear stories like that but he's got a lot of fishing to come when you don't catch nothing but that's what makes it exciting... keep on fishing....
