Is the Penn Torque 6.1 retrieve or is it 4.1 like the TLD 15?

6:1 and will winch a cod up to about 5-6 straight up without even pumping. Seriously powerful reels for the size but not cheap!

You might pick one up secondhand, i use mine for shorefishing with 30lb line and its a great all rounder and built like a tank, it even has an excellent star drag.

If I were buying a reel now i would get something you can use for everything. A TLD 15 whilst a good reel is a specialist tool. A heavy shore reel would be a better value purchase.

Totally agree with chukka you cannot go past the Torq 100s for shadding, got them on both my MTI rods - BOMBPROOF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I've bought some 20lb braid from China which is lovely and thin...it was going to go on my spinning reels but now I'm thinking it could be used for shadding...

Thats all i use for shadding, then i use a 6.1 retrieve reel, a 535 is the best one for me cheap as chips and bomb proof

yes tony might be a bit risky on wrecks unless you use mono on the end

to be fair some of the "hot spots" we've encountered in the last couple of years have been well adrift of the wrecks - but I would always fish with a mono rig for the shads anywho

going back to BestNests thread I guess it boils down to how often you get out versus what you want to do with your reel versus economics

a lever drag with a lower ratio like the TLD15 is a great allrounder and will keep on running and running

If you have a spare 400 or so notes get the Torque 100 as it seems best of both worlds

as I've said before if you have the benefit of luxury of choice then why not get a couple of different reel sizes for different situations...but if you want only one reel then my comment about how often you get out holds true

exactly right tony,the 15 aint that big,small enough for light work big enough for heavier stuff.
getting back to braid 20lb will land any fish you will encounter of our coast line
