Now then lads, been thinking of buying a small second hand boat for some time now and have got my eye on a seahog. It\'s fitted with the electric stuff you need but don\'t know if they\'re any good if yer no what I mean?
Anyway these are the models, Navico Vhf radio, Lowrance x-60 fish finder, and a Garmin GPS126.
Could any of you boat owners tell me if these will do the job for me?
Lee.

hi mate
the Navico Vhf radio check if its a DSC easiest way to tell on the front has it got a red button under some kind of flip cover if it is your ok if its has not then its just your basic vhf and you might want to think about changing it dont get me wrong it will do the job if you want to talk to other boats and as a back up but if you get into any problems out there ch16 is no longer monitored 24 hours ..... the garmin gps will do you fine as a starter same as the fishfinder however these are basic models and once you start to use them like everything else you\'ll want to upgrade them as well ..if it was me and the vhf isnt DSC then that would be my first change with these 3 items....

The seahog is a good light boat to tow and pretty seaworthy. I like the long deck area on them.

I would agree about the dsc radio...and if you get e new one get the lead to connect it to your gps at the same time.

I use a garmin 128 which is fine but soon gonna change to a plotter.

be a while yet before channel 16 is not monitored continuously, and its pretty doubtful they ever will, it was mooted but I can\'t see it happening, too important to commerical shipping. SOme dsc radio\'s won\'t work (well the dsc bit) until you\'ve entered in an MMSI registration number as well, so hitting the button will do nowt!

nearly got a seahog myself a couple of weeks back but got some thing different instead, not heard anything bad about them really have a look on here for a few reviews or seahogs and other bits of kit too
