New Fathom 15!

Just got a new Fathom 15 the other day. Went fishing with it last night and it casted poorly and vibrated!(2 brake blocks engaged) Should I have cleaned and re-oiled the bearings?
If so what is the best thing to flush them with?
Retrieve was silky smooth though!

Never fish with a reel out the box as there shipped covered in grease to protect the parts clean everything down put bearings in lighter fuel put back together one drop of oil on each bearing one brake block runs mint

If it's vibrating when your casting, it could be the spool is slightly buckled. I would send / take it back from where you bought it, and ask for a replacement or your money back.
Penn reels have a good reputation, so you might just have been unlucky.

More likely it's not been spooled evenly & it's throwing it out of balance - you won't believe how much it can affect a reel, and how bad it can be sometimes! Did it on one of my Saltists once and it nearly shook the rod out of my hands - a couple of chucks with just a lead & it was all sorted.

Gary :)

yes and i think thats what i would do also good advice.

Thought about the spooling issue as I have had a problem with my Saltist before and G-force put me right then!
I will clean out the bearings/re-lube and re-spool the line and try again.
Don't think the spindle can be buckled as it spins silently in my hand.
I will get back to you with the outcome!

Many thanks for all the replies!!

De-greased spool bearings and re-oiled.
Took line off and took great care to re-lay it as even as I could (touching turns).
Tried it down the tyne and it casts nicely, although I may try it with only the one brake bloke engaged.
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks again for the help!!
