Im going to replace the lines on both of my Abu 7000s and need a really decent mono of around 20lb and a decent shockleader to match, any reccomendations from you Lads and Lasses would be greatly appreciated. I plan to use these reels over the rough ground marks that I fish. Thanks in anticipation.

re line

re line

I was recomended rovex line by gareth davies as a tough economical line and it has proven to be just that its very strong and doesnt abrade and seems great

I think the tournament is expensive. I'll only use suffix tritanium now. It's about £12 for 680m of 30lb line. And it's yellow so great for night fishing.

I use sufix 25lb with a 50lb greased weasel shock leader
Seems canny enough for me

The Tritanium is excellent line but very stretchy (in the 19lb at least). It is very strong though, knots well and cast well. It is low diameter (.35mm in 19lb) and I use it on my casting reels (7HT Mags). The 25lb will probably come in at around the diameter of usual 20lb.

I got my last lot from Bagnalls on Grey Street as well

Just looked at my spool there mate. The 24lb is 0.4 30lb is 0.45

Amble Angler, I've done alot of fishing around your way (mainly over rough ground) and I prefer to use 30-35lb reel line straight through as I've tried using a shockleader and found that it usually snapped at the joining knot when trying to pull out of a snag. Two pals of mine use daiwa tournament which feels harder than standard mono and very abrasive resistant so I'll be switching to that once I've used up my 1000m spool of red ice.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Blankety (and all the other boardies that have replied), its looking very like Diawa Tornament, 30lb with a decent shockleader.

Cheers.

Been using Asso Hard Skin for a while on my 525 for a few weeks now and I must say I am impressed with it. It is very smooth and ''apparently'' 12x more abrasion resistant….. Than what I don't know!!
Anyway I have the 20lb in white and is .40mm same as 24lb Suffix Tritanium. Both are good lines but the Suffix doesn't seem to like getting overruns!

I got some of the rovex devil on offer from veals, 3 spools for a tenner and it's good stuff. The 20lb clear is great on a 525, very thin and strong.

I was given a spool of rovex devil brown in 50lb and it's wiry as hell, the complete opposite to the 20lb clear.

I don't see any point in buying expensive lines , they just get trashed and most cheap stuff does the job as long as it's not red ice. I would rather refill with new cheap line than use old expensive stuff.

Sensor brown is great but the orange is crap. It seems a lot of same brand lines vary by colour and breaking strain.

For shocker - ultima powerflex everytime.
