my fav lil 8ft spinning rod deserved some new additions this year so i got a new reel, £10 off amazon :D 3000 size, it feels really solid and matches the rod, also got some braid for the first time to load it with, 15lb for 300m for £7, not bad! and lots of snide dexters wedge for £1 odd each. would have cost me a small fortune if i got it all from a tackle shop! who needs to spend a fortune on the very best of gear when its going to get smashed off rocks :D. Just can't wait to get out now!

excuse the large pic the uploader i use doesn't let me make it smaller

only ever bought 1 new reel and had to save up for 20 years for that:D:D:D

unlike some who have so much gear they dont know what they have im reliably told ha ha:D:D:D

Pot, kettle, black Duncan!! :D

Is it just me, or has that rod got a terrible bend in it? I'd send it back mate. :)

Decent line lay helps when using with braid, moreso with fine braid. That doesn't look like decent line lay to me. You get what you pay for I suppose.

When you load it onto the reel it need to go on under a reasonable amount of pressure to stop it embedding in the spool if your pulling against a tight drag for instance. Leave a couple of mm under the lip of the spool too.

I thought that too lol. :D

If it catches fish its done its job I suppose.

lol fish eye lense:D appreciate the advice from people, i'll let you's know if it internally combusts at the first cast :p the line lay does seem a bit shady like but i'll just replace it with light mono if that becomes a problem with the braid.

Ideal for the money but if you hook a decent pollock I suspect it may be in pieces. Witnessed many a good rod over the last couple of years being smashed to smithereens by pollock. Wallys bushwacker smashed into 4 bits last year from just the first run of a pollock :o

Very light uptide rods seem to be a better option for the better fish but even then stopping them is easier said than done lol.

Best of luck for your summer fishing, look forward to your reports.
