Hi everyone, new member here, I\'ve been a lurker for a while and decided it was about time i registered and contributed a bit.

I\'m pretty new to sea fishing, did a fair bit as a kid, but ive been doing coarse and fly fishing most of the years inbetween (and theres a fair few of \'em)

now I\'m concentrating on sea fishing, and came here to get advice on tackle, tactics etc. I had my first trip to whitby west pier on the 28th dec and caught 2 flatties and 2 whiting, its not much but its a start.

I live in Guisboorugh near middlesbrough so my local haunts will be mainly between middlesbrough and whitby .

I\'m looking forward to getting my first cod, and in the summer I\'m hoping to get into saltwater Fly Fishing. does anyone know if its any good on our coast? I\'m thinking of sandsend for Bass?

on another note, does anyone here use the yorkshire coast fishing forum (http://tyke2.proboards43.com/index.cgi) ? I tried registering on there but it is still waiting for an admin to accept my account, and the email addresses on there dont work.

anyway, enough babbling from me, tight lines! matty

Welcome to NESA Matty, I\'d say 4 fish in your first session is a great start.

There\'s a fair few members from your area so I\'m sure your questions will be answered soon

MikeR\'s site http://www.photorecce.co.uk/ covers your area.

Hello Matty and welcome to NESA. Great post for your first one mate.

As Keith says there are quite a few people on here from your area and I am sure they will give you all the help that you need.

There are a few lads on here that do a bit of salt water fly fishing and I would imagine that they will chip in and help you out. Me also lol as I fancy a go myself.

Jim.

Hello and welcome, Matty.

\"caught 2 flatties and 2 whiting, its not much but its a start.\"

\"NOT MUCH\" ????.........That\'s more than I\'ve had all Winter (so far).....lol

Hi Matty. As well as my site (Photo Recce) covering the Yorkshire coast I\'m also moderator of they yorkshire forum you\'ve mentioned. I\'ll get in touch with the owner who sorts out the accounts.

Coincidently he is called Steve (Tyke) and also runs a great Saltwater fly fishing forum:

http://www.ukswff.co.uk/

He does fly fish Sandsend and it is worth doing. There are also a few other areas worth a shot. I\'ll be plugging for them this year for the first time at a number of locations where I know they run up to 8lb.

cheers mate, I\'\'ve been looking at photo recce for a good few months now. I keep wanting to try saltwick bay - I remember when i was about 14 my brother who is 2 years older than me fished there one winters afternoon and caught a few good cod and some nice plaice - is it still any good there?

that swff site looks good. I\'ll certainly be reading up and doing some SWFF this spring/summer.

thanks again for all the warm welcomes everyone.

Saltwick can be good Matty but unless it\'s summer and you\'re fishing one of the kelp holes you need a big sea on a good tide at night. It does throw up some big fish in these conditions.

cheers for the advice Mike, I\'ll not quiz you too much - time for me to get myself out and start learning the hard way.

might have trip out this weekend. Runswick (depending on weed state) or sandsend.

to be honest it doesnt bother me if i dont catch anything , its a learning experince! I go for the pleasure of being out in the fresh air, forgetting about the pressure of work. I intend to put all of my fish back, unless i ever catch that elusive cod that is :)

Nice to here talk of bass fishing. Not a fish that is targeted much at present although some guys I know who salmon fish with nets swear they get some decent bass in that area. I tried myself last year but only caught 1 that was size (on ledgered bait not fly). There are some people who have some sucess on the beach at Sandsend. A lad local to you called Paul Lobley seems to be able to locate the odd better Bass in the summer months. I here tell of big bass been seen very close to shore on the shallow scars at Runswick bay. Friend of mine says he saw a big bass cornering sprats there and it came so close that at times its back was out of the water. Must be worth a go. Keep us posted as I would love to try it myself. Good luck.

Just recieved my order today of 7 of the best bass plugs that money can buy - God I\'m going to cry when I lose them!

Think I\'ll start early - maybe around the May bank holiday. I\'ve hooked bass on baits in January so I know they will be about. Catching them could be the tricky bit. At least without tripods, boxes and rucksack I should be able to cover a lot of ground.
