Forgive the lateness on this post - finally took the time to join NESA after visiting countless times in the past for various bits of info ;)

Anyway after a so far frustrating season for me, where between September and December the best fish i've managed was a mere 2lb8oz codling I finally broke my fast on Saturday night with a new shore PB of 5lb4oz from the round head - not huge by most peoples standards i imagine but still a satisfying achievement for me anyway :)

Fished the roundhead of roker pier with my mate Phil, originally just scratching about enjoying sport from whiting, of which there were loads!

After seeing a smaller codling of about 3lb come in i bit the bullet and started throwing out some bigger baits

3rd cast resulted in a small rattle on the end of the rod - another whiting i thought - then came the slackliner! And in came the fish i've been after for months! Bet Phil was gutted he left early ;)

I don’t fish the pier as much as prefer the heavier stuff so was a nice surprise.

Fish caught on a big bait of frozen welsh blacks from moonfleet angling.

Cheers.

Seems that way mate. As i say given the flat seas I originally just went out for a bit of whitey sport. Once the smaller codling started showing temptation got the better of me and switched to the usual pennel and big baits - pleased i did ;)
