New reel

Just bought myself a fin-nor marquesa 20
I've not had chance to use it yet but having great reviews from everywhere
Still love my tld's & never had any problems with either the 15 or 30 I own & the 15 is approx 18 year old now,
I'm tempted to buy a saltist aswell as these also come with great reviews

Bought the marquesa from here!
Fast delivery etc etc etc
I contacted them 1st and offered them less than the asking price & they said yes

looks like all their reels are pretty well made, solid and very stylish, yes I like the look. Just the price is a bit steep for my needs but look good value in comparison i'll keep my eye out for any bargains. you never know

new reel

i was sick of poor quality modern reels so i went on e bay and bought a abu 10000c 1973 as new £100.00 my last one is still going strong this one should last another 40 years

Im after a new reel as well Tony. Thinking saltist ld 2 speed or fin nor 2 speed. Can't find any local stockists of the fin nor though. Frasers do the saltist ld30 2 speed for £270. Might look into snowbee now they've been mentioned.

I like the saltist 2 speed reel myself. But in reality how often would I use the 2 speed gearing?
Once I get into a decent fish I'm concentrating more on not losing that fish than fiddling about changing gears! If that fish needs to run I let it run with enough drag to tire it out,
The Saltist range seem to me all good enough to handle anything in UK waters & I reckon the hyper speed saltist would be more use to me than the 2 speed.

Av got that reel Tony, never used yet great reel , looks very robust, but the casing marks very easily i.e. paint coming off etc, this was the issue with them but great reports otherwise.

i have both, the LD 30 2 speed and the hyperspeed.

on the wrecks, I pick the LD30 and attach it to a Fladen solid carbon...best combination I have.

once the sinker hits the wreck, I go on low gear and if I get a fish, I bring it up on low gear...if I don't I switch to high gear and reel it up in no time.

the hyperspeed Saltist can be hard work on a big fish and you need to keep the spool as empty as possible (100y braid)

I couldn't decide on the hyperspeed or 2speed
& in the end decided on the hyper
With the idea of if it wasn't of any use for boat work I would use it for beach,
After reading your post I may have made a wrong decision!!
Time will tell

I think both are cracking reels...you will love it

LD 2 speeds are seriously expensive and I was lucky to get mine second hand in a very good deal

Mitchell 624 bullet proof ! And lots on fleabay going cheap . . No b
Code:
earing issues and do the job well and virtually maintanance free ! Star drag get some carbon flex drag washers and your sorted ! Tried and tested and a very good cheap backup reel

I agree Mitchell reels have served me well and still use my 624 which must be around 40yr old a bit slow on the retrieve but always gets there and a very simple design excellent backup reel and can be snapped up cheap.
