New reel

Saltist are a bit smaller & loads lighter.
Still thing tld's are one of the best out there as I've said loads before I've had mine since I was in my teens & I'm now 45 & it's never had anything done to it (excluding services & wash down) & it's had skate over 100lb conger over 40
Loads of tope smoothies etc
I'm a bit biased cos Iv never used anything else on the boat
So I'm hoping in 20 years time I can say as much about the saltists,
If I can stay young & fit enough to fish that long!

Feels lovely & smooth, different feel altogether compared to bg saltist style beach reels but,
Can't decide if this is gonna be my new boat reel,
Or if the saltist 2 speed would have been a better boat reel purchase

Shimano Torium 20

Shimano Torium 20

I bought a Penn Squall last season...great I thought, looks bling and first few trips out it was a dream

Problem is the anti reverse is REALLY flakey...!!!

So I had to fall back on the trusty TLD!

...Soooo, do I buy myself another TLD or try another brand??

Any suggestions?

:)

Boat reels

Just got a penn trq25 narrow from states was gonna use it for rock fishing but would be more suited for the boat ideal for braid with the narrower spool. It is a quality reel and they reckon they are bomb proof.I paid £260 for it they about £380 over here if anybody is interested send me a pm.Its brand new in box never had line on.Bri.

Some interesting insites to all the different reels and their pros and cons, but can't understand why everyone wants to "winch" fish up as fast as they can, just to get back down again to do exactly the same thing again:confused: lift the fish with the rod, save the strain on your gears. Lifting the fish with the rod and then reel, allows the fish to fight back and give a good account of itself, after all, we're all out there to enjoy catching:)

For me the fast retrieve is more for getting the pirk/shad etc back up quick from the wreck, so i can have another drop on it before we pass it etc.

Or back up, baited again, ready to drop once the skipper has went back around to set the drift again. While others with a slow retrieve are still baiting/ changing lures and missing the wreck.

Not for when a fish is attached, that's when i take my time and would prefer a 2 speed.

That's fair enough, but why pull a pirk up without a fish on just to drop it back down, unless its streaming away from the boat, by which time in all probabillity you'll be past the wreck anyway.:) Back to my point though, there are quite a few times i've seen anglers with their rods resting on the gunwhales winching good fish up and can see the fish going round and round, long giving up any fight it may of had in it when it was first hooked.
