New rod advice

Guys and gals,

I was looking at a few new rods at the minute. I was looking for something in the area of 12ft to fish rough ground / piers and capable of putting a weight out a decent distance. Money is a bit of an issue so don't want to spend a fortune..... heard some mixed reviews about the Sonik 3?

Any advice will be greatfully received,

Cheers,

Marc

Heard of a few sk3s snapping but other than that think they should be good rods and seen a few use them with no problems, be best of getting the 5-7 oz model for rough ground.
Another rod which isn't that expensive which i have only heard positive reviews about is the Ron Thompson acxellerator which seems to be very strong and should easily cope with the rough ground up the north east coast

What about second hand mate? Have a look at the buy and sell section on this site, there's some cracking rods on for the same money you'd probably pay for a new lesser spec rod.

i bought the sk3 14ft when they first came out and its still going strong, been dropped, stood on and closed the boot lid on it and it never flackered.

hey fella if moneys a problem theres a shimano catana surf rough ground, here for 45 quid if its still going,, I have one a couple of fishing buddies have them,,,,,theyre a great rod for the money,, some find them stiff,, but that's what theyre for foul weather rough stuff,, three people using them over the last year no problems yet,,, good chuckers to

Get the Appolo mk1 mate or a century, do not buy a sonik, I've had the sk3, butt snapped yes the butt while casting, this was replaced for free by sonic, then I stupidly got the sk4 ( supposedly rough ground rod and the tip shattered, they didn't return my emails:mad: I was told not to buy them, I now have a century ttr,(second hand £150off here) that when I'm not fishing I use it to knock fence posts into the ground. Yes I know people have got them and they rods haven't snapped...............yet, spoke to a man while fishing today and he refered to them as "sonic snap", I didn't mention I'd bought two as felt embarrassed.
