The new ugly stick gx2 is amazing. 12lb to 20lb is really nice and so is the 20lb 30lb

Check out you tube for reviews.

Amazon had then on special offer.

I ordered one by accident, just slipped on the buy button.

Ive just invested in a new boat rod myself.
Ive done abit of research and a lot of lads off the Whitby forum say yes too the Penn Rampage Braid 20 - 30lb. £63 from whiby seaangling supplies
They also do a 12 - 20lb braid rod too.
Its got a ridged body but more bend in the tip to help stop you bumping off fish when they strike. ITs 8ft 2 good for shadding and it will be ok for uptiding too

Hope this helps

I've got the 20-30 rampage and it handles the wrecks easily. Very very slim and powerful with a progressive action thats perfect with braid. Got mine cheap and it even comes in a hard tube. For shadding tho I prefer a longer 9ft6 -10ft uptider that allows you to lift, draw and hang the lures which can be deadly at times. Just like the hang when fly fishing on the boat!!

30lb rod waaay too pole like for the average stamp of fish you'll catch round here

12-20lb carbon rod is your best bet

Then it's just a case of what catches your eye ;)

What you planning on catching tho Sean?

And as well is that one of them uber thin jobs...?

I have seen so much hype about soft rods over the last few years, and it did get me thinking yes its the way forward but fishing well offshore with one of my mates I tried regularly to use a 20lb class rod and at times pirking, it simply was not up to the job. the rod bent as I lifted and the action of the pirk was greatly effected.

My mate however kept using his old ugly stick and with pirks he was beating me hands down. I now use a 12lb class inshore, a 20 for shadding, but offshore pirking will be a 50/80 carbon cruiser supreme. which is at alba rods haing braid rollers added as the aftco guides were not braid friendly.

If pirking a stiff rod in my eyes is the way forward as the pirk needs to move not the rod bend and the pirk hardly moving

I love the12lb 20lb inshore, loads of sport.

But agree, use the heavy rod for perks.

Have a look on Ebay. I picked up a mint kenzaki 20-30lb for £70. I agree re pirking. Last time i used my 20-30lb and it was too soft for a 1lb + pirk in a strong tide.

cheers for all the replies lads some great advice there i would love to go for a 12 -20lb rod but as i am fishing from a charter boat i am going to stick to a 20-30 lb av seen a shakespeare agility 20-30lb rod whats your thinking about this or should i go for the ugly stick cheers

At the end of the day there's a few of us in this thread who have the luxury of flexibility as we fish on private boats ;)

Which is why some peeps can afford to go light or have more than one rod for each different occasion
